Hi to all.
Has some know,i bye a Freelander Td4 Steptronic, and i'm considering to fit a lift kit and bigger tires.
I allready have seen loots of posts and opinions, but some say that the best compromise is a 40mm lift, and others have 50mm on there cars.
Whit the tires is the same thing,i allready read that the 225/75R16 stay very close of the stering arms,so i'm thinking on two sizes,205/80R15 or 16 and 215/80R15......what do you think about this sizes ?!

In terms of shock absorvers, there is any brand that you recomend me ?!
Anyone knows if exists coilsprings for lift the freelander?!
Thanks for your opinion.
Best regards

I just got a 50mm lift kit in the mail today from Muddy Mods. They look sturdy and well made.
I went with the 50mm with the thinking that an extra 10mm cant hurt although it really isn't much higher than the 40s.
Once I install them I am going for a set of 225-75X16 General Grabbers. They seem to have
nothing but good reviews. If they are too close I will add a set of 5mm spacers.
From what I have read the stock springs and shocks work well. I am not going to be doing any serious off-roading so will see how they work for me before making any additional changes.

Hi.
Thank you for your reply.
If you can thake some pictures i apreciate, the wheel spacers were in Portugal is not a good idea, the Mot's are very dated, everithing that is not standard,is an reason to fail.
In tyres,i am thinking about in:
BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2 or Cooper Discoverer SST Maxx.

I use 2 sets of tyres, for on the road I use 205 70 15 Bridgestone Dueller AT 697. For off the paved roads I use 215 75 15 Maxxis Bravo MT. The Maxis are a bit taller than the AT tyres so I get back to factory height with them I guess.

Springs: I've fitted Dobinson springs. They are made in Australia and may possibly be available in the UK too. They are a thicker coil so should handle a heavier load and I’ve gained some extra height.

Struts: If replacing struts with standard I’ve read that Delphi are good - I think they supplied them originally too. Monroe Adventure is another option but I’m not sure if they are firmer or not.

I’m in the process of making my own cast aluminium alloy lift kit. It will be a 40mm lift as this does not need the inner guards trimmed.

I've allready have seen some people whit that springs, but they shuold be mutch expensive than the lift kit.
In shock absorbers i have two options,a set of Kyb premium, whith oil,not gas,and a very well know company that bilds and repairs shock absorbers, but i expect they are a lot more expensive.
But for me the 40mm lift kit is very good.

In the tyres area, the Freelander are my second car,so i first think in have 2 sets of tyres, one for road, and another for Off road, but whit a good All Terrain tyre i will not need 2 sets, and if i can,i really want to go to Marrocco whit the Freelander,so a good tyre is needed, but is not a easy task to get a proper tyre for theme....there is not many 205/80R16 or even a 215/75 or 80R16.
BF Goodrich All Terrain KO2 have:
215/75R15
215/70R16
225/70R16
225/75R16

Cooper Discoverer SST Maxx only have:
215/85R16
225/75R16

Sorry I missed your first post. I'm in exactly the same position as you having recently received my 50mm lift kit from Muddy Mods. As already said very sturdy looking but still to fit mine as sorting other issues first.
I'm also looking for tyres and found these
http://www.eco-tyre.co.uk/tyres/gripmax-gripmax-at-225-75-r16-108t-xl-raised-white-letter/
They have the look I'm after and are much cheaper than BFG's or Coopers but don't know how good they are.
I'm also watching for 2nd hand wheels and tyres and will call with a tyre shop that sells part worn tyres. I'm thinking if I can get the wheels and tyres at a reasonable price I can then afford a set of proper wheel spacers, probably 30mm.
If you had a spare set of wheels you could easily remove the spaces and swap the wheels for MOT.

I am in the position where I use my Hippo for commuting so I cant get too carried away with my tyre choice.
The Grabbers have a good rep for quietness on the highway so that is why I am thinking of them.
I haven't read any comments on the 30mm spacers. How do the wheel bearings hold up with them.

The mot is not the only one problem....now we have the police after snorkel's,winch or big tyres. That is hapenning since the points of the driver lincense start.

Here there is no annual inspection and little chance of being inspected by the police.....Unless you get caught doing something stupid.
The one entity that regulates mods here is insurance. All vehicles here are insured by a government agency and if you are in an accident and they find illegal
or unsafe mods on your vehicle you could well find yourself without insurance, or worse liable for damage or injury claims.
I'm not getting too carried away with my Hippo. I just want it to look more like a 4X4 than a shopping buggy!

I can post you 40 or 50mm. Posting all over the world at the moment.

You'd just need to pay the extra postage

Diesel Do.....thank you for the share. Iys not easy to find lift kits for the Freelander.
For now i need to "breathe" a little bit, because in 3 months i have spend arround 4000€ in repairs on the Freelander.
But soon will be something to do in the car.

Big tyres are OK here so long as the wheel arches cover them. Never heard of Snorkels or winches being a problem.

Here we have to have everithing properly legalized and inserted the car register. In the tyres,if i whant to add anouther size i have to pay 150€ and they can not be instaled whit wheel spacers,or wheel arches !

Like a said,i have the car since march 29,but i only have'it from service and repair the IRD,VCU,Rear diferencial ad reparing the auto gearbox,in July 15,so i am still learning.
Today i was mesuring the wheel flares/arches to see what size of tyre will fit there and i have note that the wole of the steering arms is to big,so i think the last owner must have cut'it....like you can see in the below fotos.

I'd need to go out and check to be sure but that looks normal to me. I always thought it was odd you can look right through the car from one side to the other. At least I could in the K series, haven't checked the TD4.
