Hello all, just seen a load of oil from my passenger side front wheel (see pic), the swivel pin I believe it's called. As it's just gone through it's MOT (and passed) I've wiped most of the oil away but needless to say it needs to be sorted. Any idea what's likely to have caused this leak, is it a common fault, any ideas?

Cheers
Al

P.S. the car is 1998 Disco TDI manual (98 k on the clock)

yes its common (both my fronts are leaking) and there are 2 fixes....

drain the oil out and fill with 1 shot grease (LR do this as standard now). if this doesnt work...

strip the swivel ball down and fit new seals (seal kit is about £15 per side)

Sup to you :)

Parts are not expensive but there is a lot of time involved in the strip down and rebuild.

I think that received wisdom would be to only do the one that is leaking and leave well alone on the other one.......or "if it ain't broke don't fix it" :D

good advice - only takes 1 sheared bolt to turn a simple job into an expensive nightmare of a weekend!! if the other side aint leaking then leave it alone till it starts, or drain and fill with 1 shot grease now so it doesnt start leaking;)

Just done both of mine , you can leave the bottom swivel pin in, just take the top one out , it saves trying to undo those torx bolts that end up needing heat.

Hello,I put my RR on Jack stands and i have a little bit of vertical play in my front wheels, it is normal to have vertical play or i need to repair the swivel pins? and i have recently fit the hub adjusting nut to 61nm backing up 90º and tighten to 4 nm as indicated in the manual.
