Both swivel balls leaking and have bit of a score so thinking need replaced. Also needs wheel bearings so was going to do four of them too.
All sounding bloody dear at a poor cashflow time for me (tons of money out and not much in time of year!! :()
Anyone advise on where to get, what to get, brand to get. Never like to go cheap on bearings but may have to this time so any experiences with less premium brands appreciated.

I'd go Britpart teflon for your balls, and Corteco (spelling?) for your seals, but stick to Timken for your wheel bearings.

I'd guess about £250 for the lot, ish ...
 
I have in the past fitted the britpart wheel bearing kits, and not had a problem with them. But I fitted them at a point when I was doing a lot of offroading with very oversized wheels and tyres and was replacing the bearings every 12-18months regardless of what make they were. I am still running the last set of them that I fitted, but for the price of the kit and how easy they are to replace I do not mind needing to swap them slightly more regularly. They last long enough to not feel you are always doing it.

The britpart teflon balls are also good, I am coming up to needing to replace the ones I fitted 10 years ago, so they are no worse than the originals for service life.
 
An update to my original post.

Got all the gear, Britpart balls, Timken bearings, Corteco seals, everything, even new big nut socket. Had it all for few weeks now but no free time as working flat out 12 hour days, yes, I know there are 12 left but its my daily driver/workhorse so need it all done and dusted and back on road for next day. Anyway, had a free day on Tuesday so decided to go for it (well the nsf wheel leaning at a slightly jaunty angle forced the issue really.:eek:)
As is usual for me, started with the easy ones at the rear to get into my stride for the bigger job at the front. Job went like a dream apart from having to ditch one of the new bearings as had a rough bit to it so flung and picked up another.
So, coffee and sandwich time then on to the front. On the stand, wheels off, nuts off and.........what the f***, some to***r has only gone and welded the halfshafts to the fecking drive flanges!!! Not a happy bunny, wheels back on and down to local garage to finish the job as need to be back on road asap. Needless to say short of going to local LR dealer (who wanted £134 for a drive flange!!!) parts were not going to be there until next day. :(
Picked it up last night, driving like a dream but what should have been an "easy" one day job for just the cost of the parts turned into a far more expensive affair that had it out of commission for 3 days in all. All because of one useless b*****d and for no apparent reason as spline on shafts and flanges were pretty good.
Anyway, just another tale of woe which, as a long time LR owner, is annoying but just another to add to the list of "why the hell did some idiot do that" moments.

I'd now be a little apprehensive of what might have been done in the CV/diff!

When you get time it might be worth checking it .. It's likely absolutely fine.
 
why in gods name had the welded there ?

Went back in to garage yesterday to speak to guy who actually did the job.
Appears there were sheared bolts on both sides and appears to have been welded to either hide that this had been done or to con me. Latter is unlikely as was bought from the emergency services who I'd expect to have it done properly (or expect it to be). Only the offside was welded to half shaft, nearside had flanges welded together at edges. (far neater job according to Stu!! :rolleyes::)
