Dear All,

Am taking the old chugga-boom to the Alpes in July, some 1500 miles return [2000 miles all in]. What spares/tools would you recommend taking? I have European breakdown cover included within insurance

Spanners sets
Adjustables
Sml lump hammer [my erstwhile go to thumbing device]
Long nose pliers
Snips
Backup electrical wire/connectors/tape
Jack & Wheel Wrench
Light bulb set
HiViz
Spare lift pump, FIP fuel solenoid, relays and fuses
Cable ties and tank tape
Used cotton t-shirt rags [one can never have enough of these]
Fire extinguisher
1tr refillable coffee Thermos
Good music playing from mobile to JBL speaker with Radio4+ afternoon play + Radio Gardeners Question Time...

and...27x 10mm spanners/sockets/flats and angles ;)

eta: Haynes & Workshop manuals, cheese & pickle sarnies, Marmite, Yorkshire Tea [foil wrapped leaves, not bags]

PM a French speaking LZer, for their phone number, to speak to the mechanic when the arm waving just doesn’t cut it…

Do we have strategically placed Int'l Landyzone Rescuers living near to the A6 [Calais to Annecy, aller retour] They could act as emergency relay team from one region to the next...

A Map
A French/English dictionary ( unless you speak the frog)
A covid certificate

Some spare oil, water & I dont see duck tape on your list;)

If you landy is well serviced and looked after (I know it is:)) Just go with the shirt on your back, a smile:D And you flexible friend in your pocket;).
Hope it happens, have fun:)

Froggy speak - "la plume de ma tante est sur la table, Agincourt, et ciel mon ami..." = check
Covid Certs & Tests = check/en route a la poste
Map - pah, have taken this route 50+ times = check
Oil - Eurotunnel doesn't like spares carried and Frog Rossers will definitely pull me over for speeding, intimidate with Alsatian's and threaten rubber glove treatment o_O
Duck/tank/gorilla tape = check
Toothbrush, Pass the Port, shirt and non-flexible friend already packed = check

True, but I've always been in my hyper trusty mountain climbing Subaru Forester. This is the first long'ish distance/overseas trip in the Land Rover [I'm very excited...], so it's good to take best recommendations from others...

Re' Shirley, do you have her phone number and can she repair Ninety's...?

Must haves, by law:
V5S original, not copy.
Green card, the Brit insurance cert with the little bitty on the back in French isn't good enough any more,
MOT printout, (why I have no idea. )
Spare glasses if you need them for driving. (NO ONE tells you this)
Two hi-viz and you must remember to put it on before getting out of the car if stopped by the plods, so they must be accessible from your seat(s).
Warning triangle.
Proper GB sticker/plate. the GB thing on your number plate is no longer valid.

Apart from that I'd add jubilee clips various, and I always take spare coolant and other fluids. But then I am a bit OCD.

Oh and a head torch.
When are you off?
We are off at the end of the month.
Best of luck mate!

Oh and I always take a selection of nuts and bolts.
This would have got me out of a hole if I had had them on board one Christmas in Cornwall.
Got stuck driving with an engine going into limp mode every few miles as the nuts holding the wastegate actuator fell off and no shops selling nuts and bolts were open!:):)

V5S original, not copy. = check
Green card, the Brit insurance cert with the little bitty on the back in French isn't good enough any more, = check
MOT printout, (why I have no idea. ) = that's a new one on me - in 34 years of driving in la belle France never took any MOT copy[!]
Spare glasses if you need them for driving. (NO ONE tells you this) = check + prescription sunglasses
Two hi-viz and you must remember to put it on before getting out of the car if stopped by the plods, so they must be accessible from your seat(s). = check
Warning triangle. = check
Proper GB sticker/plate. the GB thing on your number plate is no longer valid. = might buy a black/grey version to match the Land Rover rear oval

Apart from that I'd add jubilee clips various, and I always take spare coolant and other fluids. But then I am a bit OCD. = check

Oh and a head torch. = already in kit...

By time I've finished there'll be no room left for rucksack/baggage, mountain gear and VTT o_O

Off 8th July for 16 days. I'm beyond excited as visiting #1 son who's at college in Annecy - due to covid we haven't seen each other for 11 months which has been excruciating for us both, we're chips off the same block and the best father-son buddies.

So lots of mountain walking, cycling, Roblochon, Tomme de Savoie et Gamay rouge. We also spend a lot of time in/around Le Grand Bornand...I nickname this as LGBT, le grand bornand et tartiflette :D;)

If it’s ex military don’t you have to have a military equipment general export license? That might be only for permanent taking it abroad though, rather than a trip

I bloody hope not. It's only me and my green Landy going on holiday !!

Though you've now made me think I need to load up with anti-frog Rozzer artillery :p

Hi viz for everyone in the car (it is the law) red triangle,
Not sure you are allowed to bring cheese in to France now.
Hope you have a great trip and you do not need anything

Hope you have a brilliant time!:):):):)
We only get to see our son and his family, who live on the outskirts of Paris, once a year, normally. They are lovely and the grandchildren are the youngest ones, great fun. So know EXACTLY how you feel. Do enjoy yourself and stay safe!
All the very best, mate!!!:):):)

You're right, you can't bring anything that contains dairy or meat products into France. So we will not have the usual bacon, gammon steaks or brit bangers.:(:(:(:(:(
