Hi
I have now got my landrover 90 and am curious about a couple of the details on it. I have lots of questions about its authenticity really. For starters, the odometer is digital display yet all the other 1989 90's I have looked at have a mechanical mileage counter. When did the digital ones start to get fitted?
Any one know this - realise it could have just been modernised, but there are a few little things on the vehicle I am curious about.

Thanks

A 1989 90 should have the usual mechanical counter, digital came into being with the TD5's. If someone's gone to the bother of fitting a TD5 console, there's probably a lot of other bits that aren't standard for 1989.

Mine's an '89, but now has Disco 300Tdi engine, for instance, not the 19j TD engine it originally came with .. :)

Hi ,

As Paul says above, ref the odometer.

Did you check all the numbers etc?

Engine
Chassis / VIN

Got any pictures, we like pictures.

Cheers

Yes it’s a td5. And I’ve scoured the vehicle and it is really clean. A few welds on cross member but wax oiled and like new. No chassis print. Mmh

Are you saying a 1989 registered vehicle has a TD5 engine in it, and it has no Chassis number?

Does it have a new chassis?
Is the VIN plate in place?
Have you checked the engine number?

Cheers

Should be a 19j Engine But is td5. I’ve known the old owner for 10 years so doubt it’s stolen.

Fair play,

Just not something many people do, to put a td5 in place of a 19J , most update to a 300tdi , but the td5 is a little trickier with ECU's etc.

Cheers
actly. My curiosity! Really tidy Landrover. No reason be any other year. No tax exemptions. Why would this happen?

Not sure, but you say you trust the previous owner, did they modify it? People do it, It is just not that usual.

Does the paperwork tie up with the engine number as correct?

I have heard as previously said, that people steal a newer vehicle and use an older vehicles identity to hide it. Someone on here last year had it happen on a vehicle.

Cheers

Is there any evidence that it's had an engine swap? 19j should have evidence of the old air filter mounting in the near side front corner. I would have thought that the engine mounts would have been moved as well....

Hi
There is a vin plate. Which matches the V5 but no engine number either. I’ve known this car for over ten years so whatever it was/is happened a long time ago.

But I suspect it’s not what it should be, not sure why as like someone else said there are no exemptions.

Hi Catharine. If you've known the owner for that long I would go and ask them everything they have done on the vehicle and for all the info. they gleaned from the previous owner. Post some pics on here too. Good luck, hope it turns out OK.
