I took my discovery for its test 2day, felt good it should pass......
the tester asked me to pop the bonnet open, he then took a look at the Vin plate and told me he could not do the test ... cos he could not see the 'correct weight' of the disco, as its a dual purpose vehicle it must weigh less than 3000kg, IF it is MORE THEN IT WILL be subject to class 7 test with no exemptions and you must bring proof of the weight or no MOT.

i have no weights stamped on it.....

take a look at yours ????

so i was told to go to the scrap yard and get it weighed and bring proof back with me before he would test !!!

Sounds like a picky f00ker!!

Had the joy of one of them mesen not long ago. Went over it with a fine tooth comb before refusing to do the test. Apparently always turns 'them things down' they're all rust buckets an not worth bein on the road.

Worst thing he could point out was a 'possible' knackered track rod end and guaranteed that he could find plenty more if he did the test

Didn't think a disco was a dual purpose vehicle. Thort that was only fenders?

x2 except its only defender commercials (ie not station wagens). Its a rule which simply doesn't apply to the Discovery.

He can still refuse to test a car if he thinks its too heavy for the ramp, though.

MOT testers can be a strange bunch.

They're fine until they go into MOT mode, then its a different story.

I know a few guys who act like they're doing you a favour! (and i'm thinking is this before or after i give you some MONEY...?)

ah well :D

Were not all strange but sometimes a little  Couple of weeks ago i had a nissan navara 5 seater pick up to test (im a tester at 2 testing stations) took it to my closest one class 4 only station, the resident tester told me i dont think you can test that here so we checked the book and the truck it weighs 3200kg fully loaded the cut off for dual purpose is 3020kg and there ramp can only lift 3000kg. So off to other station class 4 and 7, three testers there asked them, class 4 or 7? 2 said class 4 myself and another said class 7.

I did it as a class 7 and this is why, it weighs 3200kg its a pick up so as far as i am concerned it a commercial vehicle no different to a transit pick up with a crew cab.

Out of curiosity what would you class a defender utility station wagon as. class 4 or 7?

Feking hell i knew this would happen i dont know to be honest ratty would need more details of vehicle and my MOT manual, it took best part of an hour to decide about the nissan.

Only asking as technically it's a 110csw but a lot of places assume cos it aint got rear windows it's a van.

2950kg gvw should put it in class 4.

I'll assume it has rear seats? and it has windows next to those seats? and the rear bit where you keep all your tools (cos it's a landy and will brake down ) hasn't got windows? it weighs less than 3020kg so i would say yes its a class 4.

Doesn't matter if it is a van, cos a van upto 3000kg is a class 4
