hi guys, :) ive just bought a 1999 landrover freelander 1.8 petrol/lpg, the problem im getting is the rpm is sitting on 1500 rpm and ive been informed it should be approx 800rpm, ive tried the idle adjustment screw and ive changed the throttle body and ive tried the ignition on and foot to the floor 5 times process,, but still no joy, has anyone had the same problem and can anyone help?? also ive heard there is some form of ecu plug in reader for the gas ecu, does anyone know what its called please? and where i could buy one?? regards labrador

Hi Labrador glad to hear I'm not the only LPG convert
Get ready to duck when the flak starts:):):)
Is the tick over the same on gas as well as petrol?
it should start and run on petrol for a short time before switching to gas .
I would think that a ecu reader would depend on the make of the gas system installed and a trip to a gas expert might be a better option as they carry the software needed .
Oh and where abouts are you in the country?

hi, yes the tick over problem is on both petrol and lpg and i always start on petrol and never flick over to gas until at least 15 minutes so the engine is warmed up, the lpg manufacturer is STAKO and i live in bracknell berkshire and cant seem to find any lpg guys around here,, hence this forum. kind regards labrador

hi again
I think that the Name Stako only refers to the tank manufacturer not the injection system but I may be wrong(I often am:))
If you look at the LPG ecu (mine is located inside the plastic case that houses the freelander ECU ) it should say what system it is OMVL,DREAM GAS ETC not that this helps you much with your problem but it may help if you need to discuss the problem with a LPG installer/servicer.
But if the LPG ECU takes its signals from the original freelander one maybe thats where the fault lies giving that both fuel systems are affected.
Can you get a system diagnostic done to see if there are any faults
My wifes 306 had a problem with high tickover /and surging revs it turned out to be a faulty temp sender in the head causing the ecu to think the engine was cold ,I did all the things you have cable adjustment, idle screw etc we put it on a diagnostic found the fault, £20 sender "jobs a good un"
You may need to find a friendly garage though my local main Landrover dealers wont have a gas converted car in the workshop:(

Hi
yes your right stako is only the name of the tank, on the gas ecu it is stamped with EMS, ive tried to book the car in for a diagonostic service/repair but the local garages to me are not happy (at all) to work on the lpg conversions, do any of you guys know of any good garages in the Berkshire area who work on lpg landrovers?? or what is the name of the best ecu reader to buy to adjust my idle myself ??

sorry can't help with servicing locations as I live up in Shropshire .
I would think that your best bet would be to do a search for Auto Gas /LPG conversions in your area there seem to be a few about .
Best of luck

The ecu on left is Landrover the on on right is the gas

hi labrador , i have had this same problem since a full engine rebuild inc head skim and gaskets etc etc , hi revs on tickover around 1500 rpm , changed everything sensor wise , tickover stepper valve , temp sensors , pipework examined , gaskets , you name it iv done it , found the answer so blinking annoying , this is what i found , the camshaft sensor wiring plug located on the right hand side of the camcover is a three pin multiplug , it awill connect into the throttle sensor which is also a threepin mutiplug , if you get these accidently crossed over , which you shouldnt because they have a sort of key way to stop this , but you can accidently cross them and they will connect and give this issue , check this its a ten second fix and see how you go and let me know ....les
