Hellow guys,
I am new to this forum.
My land rover free lander 1.8 petrol manual centre diff appears to be permanently engaged.
How do I disengage diff lock?
thank you

A freelander does not have a centre diff. It has a long propshaft from the gearbox to the rear diff. In the middle of this is the viscos coupling unit (vcu) which compensates for the different rates of axle rotation.
However, this VCU doesn't work very well and eventually you will get transmission wind up leading to failure of the gearbox or rear diff. To stop this happening, remove the propshaft, leaving it in 2 wd.
If you require a real off-roader buy a discovery.

Lmao a discovery rot box.
My Freelander does and goes anywhere a disco goes and even pulls them out the crap when they get stuck lol.

Back to the VCU theses only have a shelf life of 75k. You can get a replacement one for £200 and can be removed and refitted in an hour and half.

Oh and if you don't believe my freelander is as good as a disco check out

Carpenters Freelander

On YouTube.
