Hiya,

I have problem with the electics on my Land Rover Discovery 200Tdi (K Reg), I have replaced the alternator and bought a new battery (hoping it would solve the problem), the battery with the ignition off registers 12.6v so all good I think, when I turn the engine on and rev to about 2000rpm the battery registers 14.2 to 14.4 volts, so all good I think with the alternator. It starts fine (every time) but when I turn the lights on main dip and main beam the lights inside the cabin dim and the windscreen wipers, electric windows go painfully slow. I have recently removed the viscous fan and put on electric fans (twin air conditioning fans, withought the air con radiator) it doesn't overheat at all which is good, but when I indicate or change gear the water temp light flashes. any ideas???

Kind Regards

Dan

Almost certainly a bad earth connection from the battery to the body/chassis.

Look down by the main fusebox, on the Disco 2 the earth goes through the box and onto the body stud, Disco 1's might be different.

Many thanks, I'll have a look at the earthing points tonight
The main body earth is behind the battery on top of the inner wing.
To save yourself some more grief in the future I would also look at the condition of the fusible links in the main +ve battery lead. Just follow the red main cable back towards the bulkhead and you will find a lump in the cable. Unwind the sheathing to expose the links and sort out what you find. Chances are they are badly corroded. They cause all sorts of problems if not dealt with.

Hi, would totally agree with what Nice Day for It says, tdi200's suffer with the loom up the offside inner wing to bulkhead corroding vey badly, have seen quite a few with all sorts of electrical problems caused by this. Start here first if i were you.
