No more help required, although please feel free to put any more suggestions on this thread I have edited my thread for those looking for the same answers, here are my specifications and the fluids I used to service my Land Rover Defender as suggested by other users and researching.

-200TDI Engine oil- 15w40- 5.8L (extra if filter change is carried out). (Castrol)
-LT77 Gearbox oil - ATP DEXTRON 3- 2.67 L. (Westway)
-Discovery 1 / Defender - Swivel Pin Housing Oil - Britpart One Shot swivel grease.
-Transfer box - standard LT230 - EP90 - 2.3L (I used Smith and Allan lubricants)
-Disco 1- Diff oil EP90 (Normal temperatures, EP80 for colder climates). (Smith and Allan Lubricants).
- 200/300 TDI Coolant - Antifreeze blue 11.1 litres ... Yes it's really that much...

Many thanks to you all!

Hi there,

I am going to service my Land Rover defender soon ready for use in the summer if it ever arrives. I am looking for a little help on what fluids I will need, my Landy is a bit of a mixmatch from Defenders and Discoveries... As if not to confuse things even more... If anyone can confirm what is correct and how much will be required it would be much appreciated!

Anyway, without further ado...

-200TDI - I currently have 10W-40 Synthetic oil, it smokes a bit so I'm thinking of changing, any suggestions on what's best?
-LT77 Gearbox oil - EP90
-Discovery 1- Swivel Pin Housing Oil I have 80-W90.
-Transfer box - standard LT230 I believe (not too sure) with short bellhousing - EP90
-Disco 1- Diff oil- Not sure what oil I need.

And my coolant is green, I had it topped up a year or so ago at a garage but I'm fairly sure it should be blue?

Many thanks to you all!

Are you sure on the origins you have given for the boxes and diffs (are they both the same ) ... as this can effect what is good for them ...

Hi Dippypud,

They were removed from a Disco 1 300TDI, the only mod was installing a short bell-housing.

Many thanks!

Panic!!! LT77 should be filled with ATF oil NOT EP90.
ATFs the thin red stuff used in auto boxes.
Read up on it it's important!!!!

EEK, that's the information I have from the previous owner (he wrote it on the service booklet) which I have only just checked. I am about to do the first maintenance run on it simply because I had fueling problems recently and the fuel filter looked as if it had never been changed! (changed it and it runs like a dream).

The tranfer box has a slight whine when driving (more prominent when I take my foot off the clutch and accelerator and just let it roll) thinking it's a collapsed bearing, another reason why I wanted to do the run as I'm not convinced it's ever been done correctly, so I'm going from head to toe...

So if I use ATF Dextron 3 for Gearbox, Smith and Allen EP90 for diff. I imagine EP90 will be too thin for the swivels, what am I better off using for those?

MTF94 or if you fancy a Fully synthetic brew go for REDLINE MTL.

If it is ATF you prefer, MILLERS Syn ATF is hard to beat in my opinion..

I have Millers Nanodrive in my TB and axles, good stuff ;)
