Hey guys,

Im new on the forum so I appologise if this has been done (did search) or wrong place...

So my question;

I want to know if you can convert a Defender 90 to a V8, while maintaining the 4WD fuction?

Though on top of that im a little lost on what V8s can actually be fitted in the 90.

The only one I have really properly looked into is a Rover V8 from British American Engine's. Though they are about £4,000 or so. Including gearbox etc

Though there are Aston Martin V8s going on eBay from £2,000 - £5,000.

Which fits? or Which can fit?

Though still maintaining 4WD.

Thanks.
Josh

I would as that would be easier though Im after a very specific Defender 90 body style, which would limit my purchase options quite a lot.

You go for it matey, thats one of the great things about them is that you can easily adapt/interchange so many parts in order to create something personal and unique ;)

Exellent! Cheers dude.

What about the fuel tank/lines etc if its a deisle to start with fitted with a petrol V8?

Got one more question slightly off topic. I recently saw a Defender up for sale on eBay that had a roof modification done, it looked asthough it had been chopped?

Any idea how its done? OR if there is a company that performs this mod?

Josh.

Hiya buddy, Im in the process of converting my 1985 ex military 90 into a V8. She had the 2.5 non turbo engine in it.

Im fitting it with the 3.5L v8 snatch military engine on carbs, and Santana gearbox out of one of the armoured military 110's.

Its really not that difficult :)

The roof chop is acieved by taking about 4 inchs out - basically the top of the bulkhead is modified to accept the screen when shortened - and then the doors, and body are adapted accordingly

There are a coupld of "squat 90" comp safari racers with NORC and the AWDC over the years and they look the nuts - except they are lacking in space if you are a bit on the taller side ( i'm 6ft4 and dont fit)

Hope this helps

Hey guys,

Got another V8 question. Im pretty sure that TVR V8s are based off Rover V8s so with that in mind would it be just as 'simple' to fit a TVR V8 over a Rover V8? Just for some more power :D

kinda yes depending on how you are going to run wither carb or EFI

POAH - Which would be better to use? Efi or Carb? for economy, ease of fitment etc..

Also would I have to do anything to the gearbox if fitting a TVR V8?
