Going to the lake district for my birthday... what lanes do I do?

before anyone mentions look at OS maps, I will be buying some for it, but haven't done so yet, I believe it's split into a few? I'm not going to be restricted to an areas in particular, probably hang about the area with the most in it?

gonna be camping, but probably not at any site in particular...

So, any that people recommend? Gonna be around the lakes area for Friday to Tuesday so got plenty of time to look about!

If you have lanes, let me know some info on it, OS maps/land ranger maps etc. muddy rocky, winchy, tight squeezes etc. and most importantly any ones that are long?? :D

Ta!

Reason being ... why should I as a responsible laner, put all that effort in to find legal lanes, then simply pass it on to someone I don't know?

For all I know you could be some oik with 23 friends out to simply go mud-plugging and trashing the lanes for 'fun'.

As for lanes in the lakes it's easy .. look on the Lake District website, can't recall exactly which one, they list them all ... or is a minor research too much? As for driveability and recommendations, they're nearly all driveable easily, rocky, and 'awkward', especially if it's wet, which it usually is. I like Parkamoor and Ashstead fell ...

Knew someone was gonna poke me to that :D

I am kinda looking for anyone that actually can recommend ones that they have been on personally

The local GLASS rep would help and probably give you some routes. Dean runs trips up there all the time. So do some of the rest of us from GLASS, but as Paul said, that service is really for members.

Yer some great lanes around here where i live but i,m not telling as i want them all to my self.

You could try the lakedistrictnational park web site...

I'm sorry but I understand the I'm not giving out grid refs or exact locations, I don't see what harm there is in saying if you look near a certain area you'll find a load of nice rocky lanes or similar. It give someone a start if there only visiting an area.

We often talk about lanes by name on here so don't keep them that secret.

Unfortunately I can't help as I've not managed to get there yet but if I had I'd give you some pointers and leave you to fill in the details for yourself.

What do you think I did? "As for lanes in the lakes it's easy .. look on the Lake District website, can't recall exactly which one, they list them all ... or is a minor research too much? If you'd been here long enough you'd know why most people _don't_ just pass on lanes and locations ... too many people just tear them up.

Nice to know you feel you can comment when providing no help whatsoever other than a moan or two though, but please, carry on not giving any real help, or even 'giving someone a start', as often as you like. Feckin' imbecile.

The second you start to swear or call people names you loose all credibility in any argument.

Secondly if you want to make it personal as someone who proudly shows they are a glass rep your tone towards the op was fairly aggressive and unhelpful. Is this helping the recent bad press on Facebook? Yes I am a member but really considering you are representing them your attitude stinks.

I've been on here for several years now, have seen the mess idiots have made first hand and have given up some of my own time to help repair lanes. Had the op put "wots da postcode for that Strata thing m8" I would have been more soportive of your comments. See Sue's comment for a far more constructive and helpful answer.

Oh and by the way my Glass membership is up for renewal and with that comment from a member of their team I'm going to join the TRF instead, I'm sure you wont care though because I'm just a imbecile.

Glass is a bit of a joke now tbh... Like a lot of other things like this its all about getting more members and name dropping than actually achieving...

If a group of 23 mates want to go mud plugging they need to pay just over £1 each and they can have the same access... Its not as if the mysterious cloak of membership is a barrier.

I'm going to spit my dummy and join the Ramblers Assc :D:D

It's been a long standing policy here on LZ not to give detailed info on lanes in open threads.

Whether you know and trust someone makes no difference, these threads are viewable by the public and any muppet with Google can read them.

Not wanting to put in a lot of effort yourself, then?

Or join Glass and get full access to Trailwise ... the best, most up to date Green Lane database available covering the whole country .. ;)
I agree! :)

Agree with that too! :)

at no point did I suggest giving out grid refs.

The point I'm trying to make is if the approach to requests like the one above was more helpful and constructive then less people would move over to Facebook forums where this information is readily available and obviously it would be easier to educate those out to tear up the countryside.

Obviously constructive feedback or a heathy debate isn't wanted just the same tired old responses.

I never mentioned grid references either, how much info is it alright to give out just because it's available elsewhere?

We are responsible for what we pass on and a publicly viewable thread here can be accessed by anyone, you might be chatting to a mate but the exchange can be read by non members.

BTW your reply to the tired old responses is a little tired.....it's a long running debate but LZ policy is clear
