I was astounded to find that my local Land Rover main dealer was charging approx £109+vat per hour. (I asked for a service price then worked the hours out to get the figure, I think I have worked it out right)

I am interested to know how much labour rates are around the country for both Main Dealers and Independent Land Rover Specialists..

Spill the beans here ;)

fella across the street charges £15 per hour but does his work out of the garage on his driveway to keep the cost down and is verry well known for being one of the best round wythenshawe do he doesent have to advertise and rarely needs to go out as all the work comes to him sometimes even has people queueing out the gate asking for jobs done

If i didn't have over heads i could work for less than that, lets keep this to propper garages that comply with all the relavant laws and regulations, i don't charge £30 an hour cos i want to it's because i have to to pay for everything, wonder if he has any insurance for what he is doing????

Thanks for all your replies :)

I think there are a number of different categories that fit here, and perhaps some food for thought on indicative labour rates below.

Main Land Rover Dealer = £110

High Quality Independent = £65

Run of the Mill Independent = £45

Fred in the Shed = £30

Dave on the Drive = £15

What do you think?

I agree with Old School, I do not want to take my Range Rover to a chap in his driveway or Fred in the Shed, I want to go to a decent independent who gives main dealer service at less cost. Those are the sorts of labour rates I am interested in.

Thanks

you mean public liability and a trade policy and he does stick to the rules for his policies :):):)

the thing is, sometimes, if not most of the time, you get a better service from the "Fred in the shed" or "Dave on the drive" than you get from the main dealer...

mainly, because they rely on the customer coming back and word of mouth...so they do a good job, a main dealer doesnt give a **** if you are not happy with the work

my fred in the shed was very good, specialised in fords, dagenham trained(so i took me ford to him) and very reasonable. Was vat registred and all other sorts of puckerness for bout 20 squid and hour.He didnt like working on me rangie though.
