L332 light steering - inactive eas, hdc and abs

Hi guy,
I know theirs lots of these posts flying around but issues seems slight different from what I've seen

Car: 2004 l322 3.0D 130,000 miles

Issue: the usual warnings... Inactive air suspension, inactive hdc and abs light.
The steering is also extremely light (baby finger with ease)
No speedo.

After reading many of these forums I replaced the battery. No change
I bought abs/eas kicker. This returns 1 fault on eas, clears the error only to reappear half a mile later.
Checked the compressor works fine, car is locked in the middle position.
Tried 3 different garages and none of the OBD machines would connect.

Any ideas before I end up spending £1000s

Easiest answer , find someone with the right diagnostics. Preferably a Land Rover specialist indy.
Second easiest answer, spend £100s on buying your own diagnostics and save a fortune in the future.

Issue is likely to be ABS related as you have no speedo and all the other systems that use the data from ABS aren’t working.

Check for water ingress into the ABS ecu connector as a starter for 10

First port of call (apart from adequate diagnostics) is battery, L322s don't like any weakness in the battery and will throw numerous fault codes

He replaced the battery, mind you it's likely the wrong one.

Sorry, I'm not up on what the correct one is, but if it didn't completely fill the battery tray to the millimetre then chances are you were just sold a generic low end jobby.

Is your a Vogue?

Yes it's a Vogue.

It was a fight fitting it in.

Ok, not conclusive as it's a job and a half the first time, correct or not.

Anyway, it should be fine for the mo, but as mentioned it needs diag, and the speedo is fed via one of the front abs sensors, N/S I think. (passneger uk)

I am sure I have read that on this model the abs block and ecu are on the bulkhead nearside low down and get all the crap thrown at then and the ecu can suffer a believe @Saint.V8 had issues with his and did a bit of a write up, I a sure he will be along soon with his wealth of wisdom.

Speedo is from Left Hand Rear Sensor on the L322.

Decent Land Rover specific diagnostics are needed i nthe first instance.

The ABS ECU is prone to failures, cheifly heat damage from sitting over the left hand exhaust manifold and also from moisture tracking along the loom into the connector - there was even a Tech Bulletin about this and the re-work is to replace the short harness that goes to the ABS ECU.....

I have indeed had ABS system issues, intermittement ABS faults that I just couldn't trace. I replaced the short harness no joy, I then replaced the ECU and that solved it. I then took the old ECU apart and found heat damage to a couple of the tiny internal wires, I did a write up and vid of the issue sometime a while back.

But we can surmise till the cows come home, first is getting on good diagnostics and see whats what.
