i have a Range Rover l322 3.0 diesel on a 03 plate, I require the motor that goes on the rear of the transfer box, the seal has gone and it has oil inside it. The fault code is there all the time even when cleared, if I put a friends motor on the fault code clears, I have read posts by a guy called Bemble on here regarding repairing them, but I can't catch him on here, does any one know of anyone else that can repair them or may have a good secondhand unit at the right price?? Thanks in advance

Hi Scott,

I’m afraid that I’ve given away most of my spare NV225 shift motor parts over the years but I may have a spare (used) seal or casing knocking about – I can check tomorrow. Obviously the biggest issue with these shift motors is that none of the individual components are available new and the motors were only ever used for the L322 and no other vehicle. There are a few ‘previously enjoyed’ ones on eBay around the £300 mark, which seems to be the going rate, but clearly it’s pot luck as to how long they’re going to last, though you may be lucky.

So are you thinking that the leaked oil has got inside the rotary potentiometer?

Phil

Hi Phil, thank you for your reply. Yes I think the potentiometer has got oil inside it, I have opened the motor and cleaned out but couldn't get the potentiometer to open and didn't want to force it, it has the code 0x5221 sensor short circuit to battery, this won't clear but when I put a friends on it clears no problems, I would really appreciate it if you could have a look for some spare parts. Are you in leyland? I am in oswaldtwistle but come to leyland regular weekly.

I’ve managed to find a couple of shift motor casings but no potentiometer I’m afraid (I gave my last couple of potentiometers away to a forum member who was trying to arrange for new ones to be manufactured)

It would be very tricky to get your potentiometer apart to clean it up and then back together again - but not impossible. This guy seems to have managed it :

It might be worth you trying it (nothing to lose)?

Phil

Thanks for getting back to me Phil, could I purchase one of those housings please then I can have a go at getting in to the potentiometer and cleaning it out, like you say there's nothing lost in trying it!! An a lot to be saved if it works, I can collect it if that makes it easier??

Sorry Scott, I've been away for a few days. Yes, if you still want one of the shift motor casings you're welcome to it (no charge). If you message me with your email address I'll let you know where to pick it up from

I would PM Phil the email address and then edit your post to remove your email before you get spammed to death.;)
Keep us posted on how you get on.
