anyway, after having my range rover for 2 weeks im still learning about the engine and where everything is located.

anyhow thought id take a look at the EGR on the bmw lump, well, very easy to get to.
had a look at it and noticed it looks very similar to the one i took off my old freelander TD4.

so took off the old EGR and by suprise the Freelander one fits perfect !

the original EGR was totally blocked - the exhaust intake was totally sealed off and the valve was stuck open !

so nice to have that blanked off now ! no more black crap going into the intake and it makes a difference in low down torque like pulling away from traffic lights - the revs pick up quicker now

So if you want to blank off your egr you know now that you can buy a freelander one thats £20 cheaper than the range rover one !!!

:D

Only thing you may have to do now is get a man with a laptop to tell the ECU the EGR is no longer there. My mates dad had to do that because it was a bit down on power after doing it, but you may have got lucky ;)

The Afm and the ecu look for the signal changes to tell each other the valve is working due to drop of air flow when it operates not ideal to bypass as it does eventually go into limp mode

Had a re-map on my TD6 which has performed wonderfully. But was trying to decide if blanking the EGR valve was worth it. The re-map guy said that it wouldnt make any difference to the car at all. Just wondered if anyone had performed both? thanks

Blanked off the egr on my disco td5 and noticed an improvement straight away. After all who wants all that black crap thats the pics show going into their engine, cos thats whats happening. Engines like oxygen not hot exhaust gases.

Yep, not always about the performance increase it's about prolonging the engine life by not pumping the black ****e around the intake
Mines still not showing any errors or limp home mode

I have read that the new MOT rules coming in January require the EGR to be fitted......

Pete

Coming straight from the Findus Beef Lasagnes mouth (I am a UK MOT Tester)

No such rule has yet been suggested or instigated regarding Class IV diesels (cars and vans upto 3000Kg)

The only thing that has changed are the Max "soot" limits from 2008 onwards vehicles has been lowered

If you are talking HGV then they have a lot stricter emmissions and they WILL fail if certain emmission related components are missing on their MOT

p.s. EGR blank ordered and soon to be fitted on my TD6 :D
