Hi guys. More troubles with my car lol.
Today the steering colum decided to die on me. She wont pop out anymore. She is stuck fully tucked in.
I know the vertical tilt mech gets jammed on these often. I'ts been jammed for months and i know whats wrong with it and how to fix it. Just havent got round to it yet.
But with the extend and retrace function, i have no idea why it just died.
Does anyone know what/where to check. Could it be just a fuse or is there a common problem?

common problem usually.

can you hear any motor spinning when you try to extend it out ?

i think a belt or something tends to break on these causing them to stop working

Have you checked the fuse? Look in the front fuse box under the autochanger, can't remember what the fuse number is but it will tell you on the cover.

checked the fuses and they are fine. It does make some sort of mechanical noise when i try to move it but it doesn't move. No sound of a motor trying to turn or anything like that, just a click sound everytime you press it in or out.

This has actually to me too. All I have to do is turn the wheel all the way one way or another then extend and it seems to un-jam it every time. Hope it works!

I mangaed to fix it. I also managed to fix the tilt function as well. Was just a case of losening the 13mm nut.
As for the telescope, well it was more luck than anything. When i got in my car late last night and turned it on, i noticed the telescope moved about 1cm. Before it didn't move at all. So i thought well there must be some life left in her. So what i did was take the key out, then i held down the lever to make the wheel extend and then i put the key in and turned it on and it worked. I think by doing that it gave it a "helping hand" the second i turned the key. Almost like an extra surge of power. Whatever it did, it worked so im happy again. It works AND i fixed my tilt. :)

well mine works perfect , however i cant see the point in the steering wheel adjusting its self eveytime you get in and out the car its only a matter of time for it goes wrong so for that reason alone i leave it set to to one place and only move it when i need to :)

I had the same problem with my telescopic setting for the steering wheel. Tried all the above but to no avail. The motor was trying to spin the threaded spindle but couldnt move it. So i removed the bottom plastic part of the steering column cover and sprayed some WD40 on the threaded spindle, i noticed it had a grove cut out for use of a screwdriver and went to work with my an impact driver. Job done it unseized it and works fine now. :)

Yeah im going to change the settings on it with my All Comms so it stays in the same position.

I had this problem and managed to fix it using the guide on the below link. Took me about an hour and a half, and you'll need torx screwdrivers, but it isn't too hard a job. If its like 95% of other cases when this stops working then it'll be a little bit of snapped plastic which is the clip holding the telescopic motor to the column. You'll need to cable tie, glue or tape it back in place. If you go to a garage they'll want the best part of 500 notes to fix this, so it really is worth doing yourself!

edit - also, you don't need to take the whole bloody dash off like in that guide on the link, I managed to do it just taking off the trim above the pedals/below the steering wheel.
