hi all,
Just got a td5 es x reg. had first tow with caravan and foud it a struggle on inclines, on a large hill i kicked down to give a little help ( it helped ) . On the next climb a couple of mins later i had very little power, max speed 30mph, then transmission warning light came on along with bad smell of burning, I pulled over straight away. lifted bonnet , smokey and smelly and turbo red hot to touch. Let car cool down for half hour , removed caravan and then drove home ( 65mile) with no probs at all. Any ideas please.

when you say burning smell, what type of burning smell? Plastic, oil, what did it smell like was burning? The turbo will be hot. Thats the reason it has a heat sheild over it with a symbol warning you not to touch it.

thanks mate. will try that. do you know of any honest , reputable people around the preston area where i could take it, been done recently with my 3ootdi.
Cheers

Thanks Ratty,
if it is any of these , why would they cause temp light to come on and to start over heating and lose power.

Faulty MAF sensor sends it into default mode as it can't work out how much air there is so can't fuel it correctly.

Sticking turbo wastegate means it overboosts and then goes into limp mode.

What was the warning light that came on? Gearbox oil?

Wastegate on turbo moves ok oil just been checked and its nice and clean and well up to filler plug. have just noticed there seems to be a diesal leak from around the fuel regulator area. also had it on mates diagnostic and faults are as follows :
1.air flow meter valve too high ( code 0014 )
2. EGR valve stuck closed (0061
3. Injector No 2 peak charge long (0074 )
4. Injector 1 open circuit ( 008b)
5. Injector 2 o/c (008c )
6. Injector 3 o/c (008d)
7. Injector 4 0/c (008e)
8. Injector 5 o/c (008f )
any thoughts

1.air flow meter valve too high ( code 0014 ) They are prone to failing. check the live data when driving to confirm it is knackered and then replace it. If accelerating is taking forever then it is a good sign that it's fecked.
2. EGR valve stuck closed (0061 get yerself a blanking kit and do away with it, they are nothing but trouble
3. Injector No 2 peak charge long (0074 )
4. Injector 1 open circuit ( 008b) get a leak test done as it sounds like the injector may be knackered
5. Injector 2 o/c (008c )
6. Injector 3 o/c (008d)
7. Injector 4 0/c (008e)
8. Injector 5 o/c (008f )
