sorry if this has been done to death. i did a search but the results didn't really answer my qs.

heres the problem - 1997 rangerover, battery went dead after me leaving the lights on for 4 hours:doh: went to jump it and got the dreaded beep-beep-beep:eek:

message on the dash says 'key disabled'

now, what is the remedy??? should i fully charge the battery before doing anything else?
when i put power to the battery from another car the fob(buttons) didn't operate the c/l, nor did the key in the door. is this normal when the battery dies?
should programming the key through the door sort my prob? if so, what is the acutal sequence in which to do this?

thank you for your time and input

from another place

"Close the car. Insert the new remote in the drivers side lock pressing and holding the button with the lock symbol. Turn the key to the right as if locking, still holding the lock button down. Hold in this position for 3 seconds. Turn back to the centre position and pull the key out - STILL HOLDING THE KEY BUTTON. Once the key is out release the lock button."

is this what I need to do?
