Lost my fobs, so used the keys lot, now door lock is not working with the key. So I cannot use my car as cannot lock it, as I would not be able to open it. Got a new fob, but can't get it programed. If I get a secondhand door lock will I needa seperate key for that. Plus tailgatehandle and lock has fell off. Help. Should I replace all locks as I don't want too many keys

Are you a Freelander 1 before 2002 or after.
1. Does the key fail to operate any other doors from the drivers door.
2. Fob key has to be programmed to the car first if new.
3. Can you refit the tailgate lock unit back on.
4. Replacing the driver lock has two parts a key lock and the main door lock.
The key lock is the expensive because you would need Landrover replacement for your car ignition. Now the easiest way to get the early model that didn't need the ignition coil and use the original key for starting the car and tailgate and petrol. But use the new lock key for the door and open all the others and lock again later for security.

It's a 2003. Maybe if I just get the door lock working for now so as I can use it. I've ordered a door lock mec from ebay, photo added. I'm hoping this is OK. Will need to find someone to fit it. Tail gate is held on with gaffa tape at moment. Once door is doon I will sort tailgate, I hope

Hopefully you can get the door lock fitted. The tailgate lock unit are brittle and weak with the fittings. A few on here araldite glue back on.
Where did you get the fob key for the car.
Auto locksmith services can tune them in from new.
When I bought my Freelander 1 2002 later model the key lock didn't work because of a extension bar to the door lock was broken. When I enquired about the replacement key lock my jaw dropped. Before discovering this problem, I too didn't have a fobkey and the battery had failed so I had to ring RAC to gain access. Interesting skill that many car thieves and police know well.
Because I was new to the Freelander I replaced the battery and bought a new door lock for my garage mechanic to fit.
There they discovered the key lock was broken snapped at the bar.
I bought the early model version that didn't rely on the ignition coil being cheaper. At the time a replacement was about near £200 from Landrover.

The door key lock isn't designed for continuous use, it's really only for emergency use, or for the odd occasion you might leave pets in the car. The car comes with remote fobs, so a sturdy and durable key lock in unnecessary.
If you get another lock, then you'll need a matching key for that, as all the locks are different.
It would be easier to simply get a complete set of replacement locks with matching keys, and swap the transponders in the old keys, over to the new keys.

I wouldn't think its the door latch actuator assembly, but it's easy to check that, by using the door switch inside the car. If you can lock and unlock from the inside switch, the lock actuator is fine, and the key lock is at fault.

Have you tried squirting WD40 into the lock. Most locks are rarely used and get sticky.

Ebay member jnea4995 breaks freelanders. He's in castle Bromwich not too far from you. I don't know if he'd fit for you but might be worth asking if he can supply and fit.

Have managed to get the driver door lock barrel off. I need a new barrel looks like someone has tried to break in and damaged the barrel. Anyone know where I can get a new one from with key
