I know this is probably an old query to those of you so much more experienced in freelander issues ! however, i bnow have two key fobs that will not unlock or lock the car but work in the dash to start the engine - I have had to resort to the key in the door !

Is there anyone that has changed the batteries successfully and is it a CR2032 - have seen this battery number in another forum?

if i try and replace the battery understand need to solder it back to the pcb inside?

also will the fob need re programming then or will it still work?

just really dont want to apya fortune to landrover dealer !
many thanks

Simple to change, check in your owners manual. With new battery installed you point in at the car and press unlock until it unlocks - bout 5x from memory. Simples!

Just noticed you have an FL2. My words were re a good old 1, so may not be solid advice. Someone will be along to confirm.:)

yes is a FL2 so sealed key fob unit - or looks like it !

We don't have so many active FL2 owners on the forum unfortunately. The quick answer might be to ring your dealer and ask them what's involved and costs - no need to commit to anything but you will be further ahead!!

Hi the batteries are not replaceable in the FL2 key.

They get charged whilst in the slot in the dashboard.

I suspect the receiver for the keys is faulty. I would get this checked first before replacing keys.

it is designed to be not replacable.

However, you can open the casing with a stanley knife and solder a new battery in, then superglue the case back together.

It is not a CR2032 though.

do not buy a used fob from ebay, there are a one shot programming and cannot be reprogrammed for another vehicle.

Bleddy hell, that is over complicated!!

it could be your main fob is duff and your spare is just flat through lack of use,try using yor spare in the slot for a while and see if it charges up,have known this happen on transits with same system;)

Hi
Just bought a 2007 fl2 and according to the book your fob should at least get a 4 hour charge from flat. then your good to go as long as the fob is being used so to keep them charged you need to keep swapping them. not that easy unless your up and down the motorway I've got feelers out to see if anybody makes a stand alone charger.

Crazy backwards progress:)

i have the same problem , i always rotated key use to keep both charged then one stopped so down to one, this has just stopped so having to use key to lock the car….
Would it be fair to say that the keys are not fit for purpose if they fail to do as they are suppose to. Should they last the life off the car.

Hi
I have had the problem with both key fobs on my Freelander 2. After a lot of looking around I found a place on Amazon called Remote Fob Centre. I gave them a try. Both fobs for my car came back fully refurbed, new case and new batteries. I would give this a try instead of trying to take fob apart yourself.
