Key fob help pls

Have spent a loong time searching but to no avail.
After reconditioning the cylinder head*I went through a lengthy process of trying to get round the immobiliser on my disco (EDC). It was broken into before I bought it so had no steering lock and used to be started by domestic light switch!!
At this point the central locking and immobiliser still worked using 2 button fob, something like:

After having the head in bits for best part of 6months and finally putting it back together the fob no longer worked.
To make a long story short, I finally managed to get it running by bypassing the immobiliser with EKA code.*
Now the motors finally back on the road I want to get this fob working again, not only to be able to use remote locking but also to give some security.
So far Ive tried locking and unlocking whilst holding the buttons on fob but no joy.
As the fob is already at the correct frequency I don't think it needs synchronising as such, just need to get it working!
Oh yeah, have tried changing the battery and doing a full drain by pressing the buttons for ages before fitting the new one, but again no luck.
Any advice appreciated :)
 
Hi Graham. Can you still lock and set your alarm with the door key? if you can't then there's a problem there.

Placing the fob by the ignition switch should remobilise the engine, is the immobiliser receiver/coil still in place around the switch, connected and working.

The fob may be faulty they can loose their 'tune' according to Remote Key have a look at their site for more info.

To re-synch a fob you have to press the lock button up to four times according to the owners handbook

Hello mate, the central looking and alarm still sets (with hazards flashing) when using the key in drivers door. Unlocking from passenger side sets the alarm off.
My primary concern is security, sure it won't take much to get the drivers door open with a screwdriver to switch alarm off!
The immobiliser aerial is still attached to steering cowel, and I guess was working when I first had it as the fob was working then.
Shall try pressing the lock button lots of times whilst it's close to steering wheel (or both buttons as they've lost the markings!).
I take it I need to disconnect the battery first to bring up the immobiliser light on dash?

Assuming that the key and the fob are on the same ring, try the following:

1. Put the key in the ignition, turn to position II

2. Remove the battery neg lead in the engine bay within 15 seconds (so have it ready to disconnect !!)

3. Leave disconnected for 2 mins, then reconnect.

What should happen is that the induction loop at the ignition switch will 'see' the fob on reconnection and recognise it.

Thanks Dave.
The key barrel is bust so I fitted a flip switch to turn on ignition along with push button start. So I shall also try switching ignition on (makes loud buzzing from fuel pump), leave fob on top of steering column, quickly disconnect battery and leave for 2mins then reconnect.
Also should have mentioned that I've since replaced the key as the original snapped, the old one doesn't contain a chip does it?..

No it doesn't mate, it's only on the later cars. The 'chip' is in the fob.

These security systems could have eldritch behaviours sometimes. The easy way for u is to find somebody with Hawkeye setted for Disco 1 and enter into the 10AS system programming application(i suppose your Disco 1 is with 10AS system)

This system has more settings....one of the settings is to command the alarm only with the key.....then....taking into account that u used the EKA code the system was reseted and maybe retuned to an initial setting which was modified on your car by the previous owner.....(as far as i know early 300tdi's(untill '96) worked with one button fobs and maybe yours was setted for two button fob sometimes).

Though i think first u have to try Land Rover, maybe the'll help

as u can see there are different links for up to '95 and after '95 disco's..............

thanks for the links, have seen that site before they seem to know what they're talking about!
Was hoping there would be a low cost fix, especially seeming as I still have the fob. Sadly that doesn't seem to be the case
 
Recently dealt with a similiar problem, it was the ECU in the end (should be cheap from a breaker).

You will need a dealer to code it for you though, but anyone with Autologic or similiar can do it.
