My tailgate will not keep open. If I am parked in anything but a slight incline it will close by itself, which of course it is inconvenient and dangerous. I think the check strap at the bottom is worn but replacements are both expensive and very hard to find. Is there something else I can do? any ideas?

Volvo check straps for their 360 excavators.

I got one in my box to fit.

You could probably make some thing but unbelievable simple and safe.

This sounds like a freelander owner issue. Just don't wear any pants and your tail gate would be open.

thanks, i will try to source a second hand check strap - if i cant, i will try to fit another... the check straps for some japanese vans look similar enough

I like that check strap @dieseldog69 icredibly straight forward.

Now I just need to find the local Volvo excavator dealer....

Cool aren't they, I am planning a rear bumper build with swing away wheel carrier as my new tyre size has increased the weight more than I am comfortable with on the door hinges and I think one of these on the wheel carrier will mean I can open the wheel carrier and it will lock open and only close when I want it to and all with a tug on the little lever on top :)
