Hi All,

I am searching for my first Series III, and have seen an advertisment in which the owner admits that it jumps out of gear in Low Ratio 1st on over-run. he says not a problem as he does not use Low 1st!

What is the score here? Is this likely to be a problem that will creep up the gears until it is a problem all the time?

Advice appreciated thanks.

David

you'd have to be more specific as low ratio first is the same has high ratio first..first is first no matter what you have selected in yer t/box... you could start by checking the springs at the top of the g/box ..right under the g/stick.

Hi David.

Agree with Slob.

Plus: It does sound a bit like if you call the guy after buying it & say, "er, it jumps out in high too", he'll say "really? it used to only be in low". A half truth is better than a total lie when selling a pup. Oh, and how does he know it jumps out of low 1st if he doesn't use it? I'd be concerned! Slob, nice new avatar! I worry about the other sites you subscribe to!

Cheers Slob,

Not much else to go on as I am just reading what it said in the advert.

Does the set-up go Engine then Gearbox then Transfer box, or is the transfer box between engine and gearbox?

I am guesing that the transfer box comes after the gearbox. Hence in over-run, 1st in Low ratio is the time when the maximum force (leverage of gearing) is exerted on the gearbox by the wheels turning the transfer box, turning the gearbox. hence the time when the force is sufficient to make the gearbox jump out of gear.

Of course I am just guessing, or I would not need to ask the question..

Hi David7richards,
yer transfer box comes after the gearbox. It may be something as simple as a detent ball and spring causing the prob. Question is, Maybe the seller isn't aware of this cos it's fairly simple to do. What ever you do be cautious.

Regards WP.
