P38A Jump starter boosters

I had a bit of an issue with my missus' car this morning with a flat battery as it didn't want to start. The long and short of it is I now now thinking of getting a jump starter pack. What's the view of the lithium boosters around, are they as good as or better than the older lead acid type packs? Will any of them crank my P38 diesel if needed as I would want to get one that covered all my cars?

Why dont you just get a nice new high capacity battery, when its cold they tend to fail because they are on there way out anyway

Made in the UK, he will post, (he makes them himself) and ring him up tell him what car you have and he will recommend the best for yours, when he sent me mine it just filled up the tray, and was the highest capacity you can get

Got a Platinum 642X on mine and it is EXCELLENT. Got it from HPS spares but they'll only deliver to a business address.

Do the electrical troubleshooting guide tests off RR.net before you start blowing cash.

Low battery often caused by old RF receiver if you still have one of those fitted.

I think it was the OPs Mrs that had a problem, not his P38........although that's bound to change, for sure!

Yes it was my Mrs' car that had the problem. Was just thinking about a back up solution that could also crank my Rangie too if that had a sudden problem, I know I am being paranoid as P38's are so reliable!

Its already jinxed, haven't been able to spend time looking after it recently so niggles are developing into big faults.

If the figures they are quoting are true and they are saying >500A peak then it should be more than enough.
Lithium ion ones will have more electronics to look after the battery than the old lead acid ones so they should last well.
I'm seriously considering one myself since I had to trail round a village in Czech knocking on doors asking for a jump start a few weeks ago.

This is not a jinx, its just the usual maintenence process for me. Fix problem but cause anorher issue while doing it.

What was the capacity? checked the site but can't find any with 110 AH capacity & battery length of 306 mm. Anything longer can't fit to the tray.

I wanted to verify the existence of a battery with 110 AH that fits the tray. I checked with Yuasa, Emron , Excide etc, nothing
Maximum that can go with the tray is 95 AH. Above that capacity battery length too go above 306 mm. I was wondering how come the genuine battery with 107 AH go with the tray as batteries have a set of standard dimensions.

Do you have a different battery tray fitted compared to standard, or something unusual bolted in the battery box?

Mine is a diesel and nothing unusual about the battery tray.
The tray max length is 306 mm, what you have shown has a length of 330 mm

Might be an idea to get out with a tape measure and check dimensions of your battery box. The one I linked above fits the hole in the GEMS and Thor (I have it in each of mine) and I know of several diesel owners that have the same battery in theirs.

I went with a mate to pick up an ebay purchase yesterday a bmw318i and battery totally flat so he pulls out one of these little lithium booster packs about the size of one of these new large smart phones but a bit thicker connects it up away she goes, I was well impressed he has used it to start a 2.5l dozzel that didn't even have a battery on it, a very use full bit of kit with usb ports and a couple of other bits I am going to find out what make it was about sixty quid Christmas is coming
