got the 97 300tdi japan re import in my posession now,and I want to do the obvious,ie, de cat and egr.....

however....when I start up the warning light for the cat overheating comes on for a moment, something I havent seen on a tdi (only petrol),which is no problem in itself-that just means the overheat sensing is working...but...on looking at the drains, sorry,HAYNES manual the only sensor listed is the lambda one.If I disconnect this will the EDC go nuts?I can take the bulb out but cant find anyreference to where the fuse is and I would like to disable the system if possible rather than having stray live connectors hanging around.

So,any advice (other than the rude stuff!) or comments, compadres?

As far as I'm aware, there are NO sensors on the "cat" on a TDi 300. It's not really a cat at all in the petrol-engine sense of the word, it's more like just a filter and is not 'closed-loop'.

So I'm curious to know what is this light that comes on at starting - are you sure it's not the glowplug light?

purrrr-lease!

or...yes I am sure :D

but seriously, thanks for the input....theres a few bits on this jap spec that are unlike any brit or euro ones Ive seen. The cat heat light (with its own logo!) comes on few a few seconds when the ignition is on just like on a petrol.

I will look for sensor tomorrow in daylight

theres a few other bits that need sorting too-like the weird EGR with the water hose, that I mentioned on another thread.

Along similar lines has anyone tried using one of the truncated cone "induction" airfilters on a 300tdi?Is the surface area big enough to give the needed airflow?Im thinking that this would be a way to make space for a huge aux battery.....
