HI all

i have a leak on my transfer box of my 2004 td5,I've bought this kit
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bearmach-...r-Box-Gasket-Kit-RTC3890-BR3292-/261547089828

my question is how hard is it to take the transfer box off and once off is it wise to just fix the leaking gasket or shall i change all the gaskets?

Do i need any special tools to do this job? is there any part of this job i need to be very careful with or should it be a straight forward ,unbolt, split parts of the box, change gaskets and seals then just rebolt up?

how much oil does the transfer box hold?

It's not hard to get off, more of a pain in the arse.

Cross member has to come off and the bolts invariably shear

Props need removing - the bolts can be a pain unless you have a prop tool.

D2 tbox doesn't use the paper gaskets (fitting them might change the bearing preloads), just needs RTV.

Post some photos up of the box and I might be able to see what needs sorting - most of the time it's just the o-rings on the intermediate shaft - still box off job to sort though.

to be honest I'm pleased about the paper gaskets lol i have some RTV so thats ok ,i bought the kit more than anything for the rubber seals as the one where the prop/hand-brake fits is also dripping

If it's leaking oil out of the rear output seal, make sure you have a good look at the flange, the seals can wear a groove into them and replacing the seal may not stop the leak...

Replacement flanges are pretty reasonably priced.
