Hmmm,

so we were having quite a good run with the rangie recently.

And then it happened, my brothers X5 gearbox gave up, all revs no drive. so considering the amount of stick i get about the reliability of my rangie and how reliable his x5 is i thought id give him some stick back.
Great fun, until i get a call off the wife. Our car wont start  great, im sure it has done it so it doesn't feel left out!

so the issue i have, it turns over fine but just wont fire up.
Read a few posts, so i checked the fuse / relay - both fine.
I have ordered a new fuel pump and fuel filter / pressure regulator just out of caution, so will get them changed anyway.

But the thing that's confusing me is
1) I don't have a warning light and only 3 codes, bank 1 running lean, bank 2 running lean and purge fault?
are they all low fuel pressure related?
2) i cant even get it to force start on gas? just does the same thing, but could have shut down the sequential system because there's no fuel pressure??
3) i cant even move it, had a few of us trying to push it with it in neutral. at the risk of sounding daft, is it not moving simply because its so heavy? i have never tried to push an auto before. PITA as is blocking the disco that's on the drive and im supposed to laning this weekend  !

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Under the Acoustic cover is the Fuel Rail, on the fuel rail is a Schreider Valve....

crank the engine, then get out and using a small allen key or similar, plus a rag to catch any spurt, press this valve in carefully and see if you have fuel pressure....CAUTION it could be under pressure so be mindful of the fuel spurt.

If nothing try again, whilst some one cranks and see if you get pressure then....if still nothing, check the fuel pump for operation (check fuse and power from to the pump etc) listen for it whirring...

If Pump OK and power to it OK...suspect fuel pressure regulator...

My guess is the fuel pump - mine did the very same thing last year - check my How To etc...

Read all your how to thanks ant, great write up as usual!

With ignition on I get fuel flow out the fuel rail, turn the ignition off and I get nothing, definitely nothing that seems pressurised anyway. And it should be 3.5bar, so I would notice that lol

I can't hear the pump, but it must be working.....ish to get some flow
Check fuse and it's fine, checked relay and that's good

It is low on fuel, so might have sucked up crap out the tank and blocked the filter maybe?

I'm going the change the pump and filter anyway and see how we get on.

Well I managed to move it enough to get the disco out .....

So, what was the problem?

Fuel pump,
I replaced it as per saints thread, but while taking it out I managed to snap the level sender off, so ended up costing 400 for a new pump assembly rather than the 160 that saint paid for the internal pump.

But the whole thing is new now, really easy to do just plug it in and drop it back in the tank. Just got to be really carefull as it's abit fiddly.

Runs smoother than it had for a while :)
