Had a few landies but never had a v8 and am fancying a p38 could someone please give me loads of horror stories to talk me out of it lol and are they really that bad or is it a slight exaggeration

Lovely old bus, lots of drama queens whine about niggles because they bought a car to show off and not the worlds highest spec luxury 4X4

Great thing to drive, uber comfy, mountains of car for your money, all cars have problems and some direct from the factory.

I dont mind tinkering but are parts mega bucks? I had to wave by to my l322 after replacement gearbox all 6 injectors air bags all round and compressor etc etc it had only done 80k

I bought p38 in the knowledge it needed plenty of work to get it into decent condition.
What i didn't know was the v8 had a cracked block!
You live and learn!
Get one that's already had the liners done will be a good start though there seems to be mixed opinion on whether they can fail too
Check the coolant is full to max, let the engine get up to temperature, it shouldn't take many minutes for the gauge to reach the middle, then check the top hose isn't rock hard after a bit of a drive

I cant decide whether to buy something cheap and fix it up or something a bit more expensive with history it's only going to be a toy

I bought a cheap dooer upper, wish I'd bought a nicer example
That said, mines just tatty. Everything works as it should, mostly. Apart from the block

The diesel p38`s are not as quick as the v8 but dont seam to require fixing as often as the petrol it all depends on what you want, i wanted something to tow the tin tent and not cost a fortune to do it, it was great as a motor with two young kids the space was wonderful it just ticked the boxes and twelve years on i cant even think of replacing it :)
as said not fast but just sit back and enjoy your favorite arm chair and arrive is comfort:D

Don't for the love of **** sake buy a cheap one as a "project" most of them have been driven to the cliff and are on their way down, they'll cost what a good one would of been to buy and then some to put right

Budget for a nice one, the V8 is nice and torquey and fast for a 90s SUV quiet too

Diesel is more reliable in the long haul, but usually less equipment, and it's woefully slow and underpowered.
