Hi does anyone know how to check an Italian registered car, for its old MOT`s?
In the UK you can use this site MOT Information - Home

All you need is the Reg and the V5 reference number which can be found on the V5 form of course.

Do the Italians have a similar website, or does anyone know how I can trace the service history or MOT`s for and Italian registerd car.

I don`t have the hand book:confused:, all that comes with the car is the V5, MOT, no handbook, Nothing else as far as I know, there was a COC with it , but this is only a photo copy, should this be an origonal copy.

The car is LHD but on UK plates, I can find the UK MOTs but was wondering whether there is a way to find the MOT`s done in Italy.

I have not bought the car as yet, and yes that is my other post, posted on a few forums.

What changes did you have to do to your freelander, to make it UK spec/legal?

Just noticed your not in the UK

The COC should be a original copy. Unfortunately you won't find the Italian MOT's without knowing which garage/s it was serviced in, as its all paper certificates and stamps, even the Italian version of DVLC, will direct you to the local garages, so likely you won't have any help there.

All that was needed to make our FL, Hungarian friendly, was proof of ownership a local MOT and a change of registration to avoid the high bureacracy costs of importation.

Heya,

The link is for info only, later it will evolve into something where you can check your vehicles service history.

I never realised you were buying the car in the UK, should have asked, is it a private sale or from a dealer, it makes a difference, if its via a dealer, it's easier as there is legal detail, which needed to be observed. If its private, then its a different ball game (legality of the vehicle, stolen, outstanding debt etc), as for getting the vehicle checked over, likje anything else, if your not sure, take a competent mechanic or someone in the know with you.

Yes its from a 2nd hand car dealer, I want to trace the Italian service records/Mot`s to confirm the milage, According to the 2 UK MOT`s the car has now lost around 30K kilometers, may have lost more, as the last MOT and milage was recorded in the begining 2009.

The dealer has no service books and I never saw the current MOT he said it will get a new one when its checked over. I have also spoken to the previous owners of this vehicle briefly and they said he has all the service manuals etc.

Seems he has lost anything that will show its current milage,

I will ask to see the HPI report when I see it next. I never asked to see many documents as they seemed legit and having a huge forecourt. Its just when I did my own checks things did not add up.

What reason would he have not to show you the previous documents, and BS you by saying he does'nt have them when you were told otherwise, all seems a bit suspect, all a question of trust really.

Well after checking on the MOT site in the 1st post it seems that the vehicle has lost quite a huge amount of milage, while being in his presence.

I just need to know what papers/documents should be with a origanaly Italian registered car.

You say the COC should definatly be Origonal, would you have a copy of what one looks like and what should be on it, the dealer shown me 2 parts to the COC both photo copies.

A good enough reason to have nothing more to do with the vehicle or that trader - ever.

...with the possible exception of a word in the ear of Trading Standards

yes trading standards had crossed my mine,

Expat any luck with the COC, what information is actually on it, and is each one issued specific to an indvidual car, or are they all generic for freelanders
