Long shot here...
Anyone have any knowledge of the byway near the top of Snaefell? Windy Corner to Glenroy. Looks to be above the tree line so looks to be non scratchy but seems mega steep.
There's no info on Trailwise. Anyone driven it recently?

Not driven it recently, but it is certainly driveable. I last did it in a D1 with a 2" lift and it was fine, albeit with some "steps".
What vehicle would you be using?

Edit: I'm happy to walk it for you and take some snaps of the general terrain, and any possible hazards for you.

@RBoshuis was out with the local 4x4 club on a lane run the other day, and I believe the meeting point was up on the mountain road somewhere, but not sure what tracks they did.

I'll be in the Disco 3. Going over there to cycle the TT course and it would be a shame not to sample a local delight whilst on the fine island

Hi @DavidSally I didn't do that one unfortunately, we've done the one starting at the Selter just north of Snaefell.
Let us know when you're coming over and we migh be able to help out.
There are some other non-scratch paths that are real nice.

@Shimsteriom I'd be happy with those pictures, especially of those steps you mentioned.

When are you coming over to the Island? Although that particular track isn't too demanding, I wouldn't suggest a lone run, just in case.

I'm going tomorrow and will hopefully drive a lane on Saturday after the cycle. A bit late for advice I realise.
I'd be happy for a recommendation of a non scratchy lane, I don't mind if it's technical, just keep the paintwork in one piece lol.
Unfortunately there's no descriptions of any of the lanes on Trailwise.

It will be the one car with 2 'laners' in it. I have a winch fitted.

Yes, the lanes on the Island aren't advertised too well because unfortunately there was a spell a few years ago where some local 4x4 drivers decided that any lane could be driven, regardless of the legal and material state of it, and turned a lot of them in to disaster zones, so the local Gov decided to keep greenlane locations quiet in order to allow them to recover. Our local 4x4 club volunteers regularly to help maintain and repair the lanes, but unfortunately, due to inclement weather conditions and unauthorised use, some of them are still in a fairly bad state.
@RBoshuis , it's probably too late now, but do you know if the club actually has any lane runs planned for Saturday that David could maybe join?

My golden rule is not to lane alone but this opportunity seems too good to miss. I wouldn't want to put on anyone over there so just a pointer would be welcome. I presume the lanes on the mountain would be rocky therefore non damaging by me?

Depending on time, I think I'm booked by the family on Saturday until 5.
the one starting from the Shelter is pretty scratch free and a few slightly technical bits a bit in. But it does go in a dip, so if it started to grow down the sides, or you veer of, you can get hit.

An easier One is Millenium way starting just west of Ramsey. Quite nice views once you get higher.

As for upcoming runs. If you stick till Sunday you're good. That's when we're going for another run.

The particular lane you're talking about was quite rocky in patches when I last drove it, but as long as you go easy, you'll be fine. I just wouldn't want anything to happen which would mean you've leave our great Island with a bitter taste.

@DavidSally yes indeed, but there is a bit that is still not good to drive in between (naturewise, I bet we can do it, but at cost of the lane, so a nogo)
We checked it out last time.

You could take the right to Sulby from Milennium way, but one is real narrow with loads of trees. And the other is not advisable on your own.
Our lead got thrown out of his seat last time, sitting on the passenger seat watching his car go downhill funny story as it all worked out...

Ok, the other lane it is then. I'll take my time and hopefully there'll be no LZIR call out lol.
