Is this really a "Sport Premium"

This car is being advertised as a "Sport Premium", but it just looks like a pretty basic entry level model to me. Definitely no "Sport" badging.

There's a lot of it goes on over here. Probably about 1/2 the Freelanders on the road are 2nd hand imports from Japan. The car yard importing them registers the car with the "Kiwi DVLC" and they get creative in how they describe the car, often putting "Sport" on the documentation when even the badging on the car shows it isn't a Sport model.

This one though is a NZ new car and its 'official' sub model is a boring "2.0D 5D 5A 4WD SW".

I recomend that you "NOT" buy it based on a "I said so" Bases

It’s not a Sport as the VIN was different for Factory Sport variants - there was an F near the beginning somewhere - can’t remember the detail now

Just checked a VIN of a "real" Sport and its as you say...


Need to check a 2006 one though because I believe they went to standard height suspension at the end of production - I wonder if that would change the VIN coding?

Not sure I'm going to find the plate on a 2006 Sport in NZ though.

That's a UK spec 2004 MY onwards SE, which is what I have. A "Sport" has 18" wheels 40mm lower suspension, and the "Sport System" insignia on the doors. A "Sport Premium" also has full leather interior, front fogs, and the HK sound system.
