I know disco 1s have their problem rust areas ( boot floor, rear arches, inner wings, sills etc )

Were these sorted when they did the disco 2s or do the problems still exist ???

I currently have a disco 1, and any problems with rust are sorted,i will be looking for a disco 2 and i am wondering if the problems still exist, i think if they do i will probably stick with my disco 1 as i know its solid

I always think this is funny, The main problem was with leaking sunroofs causing the floors to rot on the old ones, but rather than sort the sunroofs on the D2, they just fitted a different floor! As far as I know the floors aluminium now to stop it rusting. My roofs leak like niagra falls and the floors still solid!

Series 2 one don't tend to rust like the tdi, but if your's is sorted i would keep it. I have a tdi and wouldn't swap it for td5.

the body on a td5 wont rust it is still steel but it has been better protected than a tdi td5 sun roofs do leak but there is no resen to let them leak they are fixable and the alpine roof lights dont leak causing the main problem problem with boot floors but the main chassis are showing there age on early td5 but if waxoyled they should last

Mine doesn't have a sunroof but the floor's still rotten.

We have just had both our sunroofs out and resealed them to the roof, rubber seals were renewed last autumn.

The leakage was not where we expected at all, it was from the screws that hold the two halves of the sunroof together. If you park uphill, with the drain tubes at the front, any water getting into the drain tray goes above the level of the upper/lower parts joint and leaks through the joint into the headlining and into the car.

All four drain tubes and corner pieces were fine.

Go to B&Q, look in the plumbing section for "Drain Valve Washers", they are just over 1/2" diameter and 1.5mm thick, £0.98 for a 4-pack. You need 14 for each sunroof. Once you have sealed the sunroof and fitted those washers under the heads of the screws, you should be pretty dry.

THEN, you can get your carpets up and dry them out.

Our back carpet was so wet that it ran out of the foam underlay when we hung it up to dry, we had to put a bucket under the corner.

The other area of leakage was the roof bar mountings, which although they had foam round the base, it wasn't compressed and actually had water right across the face. We removed a single washer from under each mounting and ran a ring of sealer around the roof hole before bolting them down again. The foam now compresses and the sealer should stop any liquid getting through. The rear mounts have a 3mm thick washer which must stay in place.

No water coming in at all now, we had rain last night, all is dry.

Both Alpine and side windows show no signs of water ingress,

The floor is absolutely pristine and unrusted, the fuel pump access planel was rotten rusty, obviously not painted or prepared the same as the body. We'll buy a new one plus the rubber seal.

Hi UP:

Yes, it was very wet indeed. The carpet/underlay is still dripping, we hung it over the cable rack at the factory, but it's going to be a week at least before it is dry enough to refit.

Very pleased how good the floor was though :D

Think i have answered my own question

When visiting a friend at a local garage, he was servicing an 04 Discovery, ready for delivery as it was sold

I looked under while it was up on the ramp, and noticed the chassis had a fair amount of rust on it

My 96 300TDI had less rust than this, before it was cleaned and waxoyl'd

The 04 Disco was only surface rust, which would wire brush away, but i wouldnt like to see it in 4 or 5 years time if the new owner has left it untreated

So if i sold my 96 Disco, and got something like that one at £13499 i would have a car with a chassis in similar condition

Therefore i will be keeping mine for the foreseeable future, as the big outlay in cash wouldnt be worth it for me at the moment

I dont havea sun roof in my 3door, but my boot is so horribly rooten, i am going to start cutting it out this weekend but i need aboot floor wheel arches the whole shibang! But i think my problem is , that it is ****ing in throw the back window rubber where it has split from old age, but my sound deadening was so heavy and wet. I cant wait to have a nice floor, then im going to shutzz the inside and underside before i fit the chequer plating
