In the previous "old boys" series of the forum, one of the members said at that time that he removed the pollen filter all together, it gave an improved airflow and better heating results, might be I'll do the same when filter is clogged up. (There is one big dilemma however, how do I know it's clogged up when I'm too lazy to open up the unit ???? Let the next Sherlock rise and give me the solution.);):):):):):)

What size are the 4 screws, I've a new filter and none of my sockets etc fit it.
The closest is a 7/32.

What do I need to get it out?

Just been to check. It's a 6mm hex. :)

I've got that size in my 1/4" drive socket set. :D

I put all my inch stuff in the cupboard at the back of the garage a long time ago as none of them fit properly on anything metric (even if I think that it does) :(

Too many skinned knuckles when the damn thing slips off!

Hope this helps.

Hoo-ah!

Was 6mm hex screws, had to find a smaller head of 6mm screw to fit into the plastic recess to get to the screws.

All changed now, was manky, not OP manky but still some leaves and seeds etc. Nice new genuine LR in place.
Thanks for the help.

Mr Frustrated here,
Just been out with my 1/4 inch drive 6mm socket and no joy,
it wont fit in the recess the head fits into, no supprise I guess,
I tried a 5.5mm socket and it fits the recess but not the head,
if I purchase one of these thin walled sockets would that do the job??

Powerbuilt 1/4 Inch Drive Socket 6mm Thin Wall | eBay

or do I have other options I havent thought of yet??

Not including burning it...:(

Thanks in advance for your thoughts..:)

Wow - this is an old thread - I hope you haven't been struggling with this since last December. :p

Yes - you need a thin-walled socket set to get at the little rascals.

Cheers SV,,

Is it worth getting a full set or just the 6mm??

any other silly tight little ones on a Freelander ??

Just goes to show that the search function does actually work...

The only other ones I can think of immediately are some of the jubilee hose clips that have quite small clearance between the hex and the band.

I have 3 different sizes on my engine and the strong 1/4 drive don't fit them all.

i coaxed mine out with an open end spanner .. or maybe it were the ringed end ..
refitted them using a small rubber grommet as a washer ..
now they're slightly proud of the housing a 'n easy to remove
