Hello folks. I have a 2004 Disco 2 which is fitted with auto traction control, but not Inter-Axle Diff Lock. The ATC works great in most situations, but last year while reovering my boat I managed to get my rear wheels bogged down in wet sand and with a big tide rising..... I almost lost it. In fact I took all of my posessions out and dumped them on dry land, convinced that my dear Landy was going for a swim. If it wasn't for one of the guys in our boat club having a nice little Defender 90 handy and a good solid tow rope, I'd definately have lost her.

The Disco 2's ATC uses the braking system I believe, to stop wheel spin and thus apply torque to the other non-spinning wheels. I don't think that this is as efficient as a locking IAD and so if it's possible/ not overly complicated/ hugely expensive, I would like to consider fitting a Inter-axle diff lock?

Has anyone tried this before. Is it feasible?

Thanks, Brian

PS.... Merry Christmas everyone!!:)

and i think there is a write up on urban panzers web sits using a tdi set up as i have done but its not easy to find the bits its just that i had a disco 300tdi gear box and transfer box for a different project tha only thing i would had to his write up is to find a 300 tdi rubber cover for the transmission tunnel

I don't know what the ultimate capabilities of Traction Control are, but in theory it can hold more than one wheel from spinning, while a CDL's efforts are done once two wheels are loose.

I have the CDL and also a Disco 1 control lever set and bracketry which I will get around to fitting one of these days.

It can also respond far quicker than the driver to slippery conditions, which we have all had a fair bit of experience with these last few days.

Hey Foss, (of topic sorry!!)

You done the Draa valley trip ? what was it like, thinking on that this OCT

was superb...a must do trip.
Trailmasters were first class...we also met some folks who had undertaken it with another "organisation" who are to be avoided if you havent decided who to go with (unless youre goin alone of course)...PM me for any info you may want & a video I made a few weeks ago if you want it.
The disco 1 that came along is being featured in a write up on the trip in LRO Feb I think...hopefully I might get five minutes of fame too!
In all seriousness, ring TM & speak to John or Amanda, very down to earth & easy to get on with. Good sized group of 2 Defenders (including TM vehicle) a D1, my D2 & a Landcruiser...the guys from the other trip had 25 vehicles :eek:
