Hi
Looking for a td4 5dr auto, I'm well aware of most of the pitfalls with these and I intend being well prepared and collect some spares from the local breakers, that has a v6 that is just about to be broken. Are the IRD's the same across the whole range ? was intending to acquire the IRD and recon it in preparation for when I source a good TD4, I already have a new gkn vcu that I have had on my shelf for a couple of years when a customer gave me it in lieu of payment for a clutch change I did on his Volvo B10M (bus) thought it would come in handy one day.
Also whats the consensus of opinion on the Hawkeye Total, don't think any of my volvo or scania diagnostic gear will be any good for a freelander, I know they were useless on my P38.
Thanks
Carl

The V6 IRD is different to the smaller engine IRDs. It's a different casing (although will fit, apparently) with larger bearings, but the gear ratio is different. This wouldn't necessarily work well with the smaller, less powerful engines. The VCU and front prop section is also different.

Thanks for the quick reply, thought I'd be lucky if it would but does that mean that any other than v6 ird would be compatible? Auto or Manual ? or does each one have differing ratios.Trying to go through rave but its doing my head in trying to find info.

The Hawkeye Total is effectively an original Hawkeye (which yer can't buy now) built into a Hawkeye Pro case (which yer can't buy now) with an open license which covers all models on the Hawkeye list of vehicles it supports, with a bit more development work on the newer lr's it can be used on.

Sorry I forgot to say that all other models use the same IRD. I think there was a ratio change early in the Freelander production run, but those will be rare now. So basically any 2000 onwards FL1, 1.8 petrol or TD4 diesel, auto or manual can "donate" it's IRD.

Keep my eyes peeled when visiting the scrappers, always seems to be a few freelanders appearing at my local one,but now I want one they probably become thin on the ground.
Thanks
