Hi all,

I want to put a power socket in the boot, I know some of the very last models had them but does any one know where to connect it up to.

I have a 3-way adaptor that would normally connect to your cigar lighter, the idea being to connect it in the rear with a switch to run elec cool boxes etc when holidaying.

Has anyone done this/ anyone know where to plum it in?

Do i need a workshop manual for a wiring diagram?

Thanks in advance Jay.

left hand side of boot there is a 12 volt feed for trailer aux grey socket. the fuse is under drivers seat and does this and fuel flap/central locking if I remember rightly

think i would run seperate wires and fuse it independantly, last thing ya want is to plug the fridge in and lose your central locking and not be able to put fuel in:doh:

I have found the mentioned cable. Would it be worth connecting to it a putting in a seprate lower fuse? If i were to run seprate wires, where would they connect to? theres no easy way to run the wires to the battery?

Also would this run things in the caravan like fridges etc..

pretty sure folks run a relay off this plug for running stuff in caravans so you would still need to run heavier wires from somewhere, can't tell you where from coz mine was already done when i got it and it was the only thing that didn't go tits up so i never disturbed the wiring

Problem is the RR battery is not a deep cycle battery meant for running fridges, tellys etc like the caravan ones are - I managed to add a second battery to my previous RR as I used to use a winch and other heavy-on-power items, so I had a split charging system with two batteries, one of which was a deep cycle one which didn't mind running down and recharging all the time, the other one the usual RR battery, and the electrics stopped the main battery from running down too low.

far as i know the fridge in a caravan aint a high draw unit, have one hooked up everytime i take the caravan out and never had a problem with the batteries on any tow car.

The aux socket can take a maximum of 5amps and the fridge runs at 5.5.

But acroding to the manual the circuit which operate the rear central locking / fuel filler is on a 30 amp fuse.

I dont intent to use all 3 at the same time? Ill give it a go and wire in a adaptor.

surely a 30 amp feed can miss a couple of amps for trickle charging a torch or whathave you. incase anybody else out there is thinking the need something like this. i know a direct battery feed is best, but it is arse ache getting a cable there.
there is a decent feed from the battery which feeds the drivers seat fuse box that coulld be tapped off if the firewall and bulk head put people off.

Run a 10A fused supply from battery and use the spare ignition live wire located in the spare plug behind the rear l.h. side trim panel to switch the relay coil. That way plug will monly be "Live" when the engine is running and not flatten the battery...........unless someone knows otherwise.
Awkward..Yes but not impossible to run a cable from the + on the battery, along the inside of the car to the rear l.h. side.

I found it easier to take +ve feed from front post on BECM and then just feed cable to boot under carpet/bottom door trims and over rear wheel arch. Then hooked in a split charger relay unit, to give two 12v sockets, inverter and dedicated charger plug, all mounted up in nice neat box fixed to boot side panel with seperate fuses for each.
