what's the best/cheapest insurance for a 24 year old, 7 years no claims with and 1995 110 defender with a few mods. just had my quote from adrian flux and it's £640 which seems abit high. i'll phone around today and see

Different insurers will quote different prices based on their risk appetite for your age, location and Landy

It's a pain, but phoning around or using a broker is the only way - the price comparison web sites don't always work too well with Landys for some reason

Give Lancaster a try

I was 30 when i got me first own landy and had major trouble with insurance cuz i'd had an accident 3 years previous and i had added a few mods (side runners, steering gaurd, steel wheels with AT2's). Called all the LRO magazine adverts no-one wanted me for less than £800 either becuase of mods or accident.
I then called my local NFU office who for a start were a bit unsure about insuring me, but in the end i swapped all my insurance (houses, two cars and some other bits) to them and saved about £800/year!
Depends on your local office though cuz others on here have not had a lot of luck using NFU. Worth a call though, but use your local office not main NFU number.
Good luck

to be honest mate, insurance has risen dramatically in the last 2 years. the farmers union used to be dead cheap for insurance especially for land rovers, but i tried them and theyve pretty much got wise to it.

im 27 and have 1 non fault accident in the last 5 yrs and 2 driving offences and my last car, an mx5 cost me 1400 to insure a couple years ago, n this was considered cheap to what id previously insured.

when i came to insure my landy this time with 2 years NCB i rang around and noone came near to adrian flux, ive previously insured with them before and have been happy with them.

i got fully comp for £568 for a 1990 one ten with an immobiliser.
also worth mentioning that adrian flux dont charge for modifications, and adding them to your policy as you do them doesnt warrant you to pay for amendments each time (£25 a go)

when you get your docs through they ask you to sign an immobiliser declaration form to which i just signed "unbranded immobiliser" and also they give you an agreed valuation form.

the agreed valuation costs 17 quid and you have to take 7 photos of the car, however you can submit this at any time if you want, so i plan to do all my modifications first, let them know about what ive done, then submit an agreed valuation with photos

for what its worth, ive never had a problem with flux, and have insured 2 bikes, 2 cars, and the land rover with them.

Well I've been with AF for two years now, last renewal was a shade over £200, fully comp on a 1996 110 CSW, with a Toad immob. They get a thumbs up from me, but fully understand people have different circumstances/history etc.

they upped my renewal by £157 with another years no claims
now with glendale half the price

and i agree wouldnt touch af with a barge pole theyve stitched too many members up on ere...

This is interesting. I have just insured my 90 with Adrian Flux. They quoted me £508 for the year TPF&T (I'm 22, with two years no claims) but they seem to have mislead me with regards to my payment and it is looking like it is going to cost me. I paid a deposit of £92.44 on 12 March to secure the price and was then told that as long as I paid the rest of the premium by the end of April (i.e. the first debit instalment would automatically be taken on 1 May) that there would be no direct debit payments. I then paid £300.00 on 29 March which meant I should have owed £115.56 before 29 April. I called them a week before hand only to be told that the direct debit firm had put through a request for payment. Not my problem right? I just wanted to pay off the remaining balance before the end of the month as instructed to ensure direct debits would not be taken. I have spoken to three customer service agents, each giving me different stories and dates regarding direct debit payments and and each telling me that I owed different figures. What a total confusion. I am not happy at all and will be on the phone with them tomorrow to try and sort it out. I know that I will be bullied to pay, it is always the case with these companies :(

i would recommend aviva! im 18 live in london 1 years no claims in LR discovery 2 4.0 v8 fully comp £50 excesse , 6000 miles £1800. Which is alot of £££ but considering my friends pay about £2000 for comp with £500+ excess on 1.0 and 1.2s , seemd like a good deal to me !

had another call from adrian flux yesterday about my insurance and managed to get it down to £556 from £620, i know it's not alot but it something, i was told by a few companies that when i'll 25 it will drop loads. lancaster quoted over £1000 but said if i was 25 (which i am in a few months) i would be around £380. i did think about sorning it till then but i need it. so i.ve had to stay with af for now and see what happens next year.

Thanks not a bad price, mine is similar with Flux and very similar age, NCD etc.

I first used them about 2 years ago and got a significantly cheaper quote than the mainstream insurers and was able to declare the few mods/accessories I had.

Always pays to shop around though.

don't forget to come back to us with the outcome.

I haven't had a response from Adrian Flux online yet but I have been on the phone to customer services this morning to try and sort things out. I have paid off what they believe is the remainder of my policy but I am still not 100% satisfied. After being on hold for nearly 20 minutes whilst the agent dug through my file and had a look at the mess they had made of it, she came back ad told me that I owed over £200! I asked her to run through everything with me and then another 5 minute "hold the line" later she acknowledged that some of the items I requested to be removed from the policy such as key care and personal injury protection had not been refunded. Even the £92 deposit I paid initially had not been knocked off the final payment. She sorted this out and then brought the figure down but it still included the £20 fine for the debit failing (bearing in mind they told me to cancel the direct debit) and the interest for the first direct debit payment added in on top. They wavered the £20 as a good will gesture (ha!) after I got a little annoyed with them but it has still just cost me £40 more than I believe it should have done. I have asked for a complete run down of all the costs, subtractions, payments etc from them so that I can run through it and check everything thoroughly. One thing I have noticed with Adrian Flux is that they never display figures anywhere in their paperwork - only the costs for additional services such as key care cover and break down assistance etc. There is not one mention of my annual premium anywhere in sight - even the lady on the phone couldn't tell me how much I was quoted initially and they appear to have major problems in documenting payments and subtractions etc.

What a total mess. How can an insurance firm be so unorganised?
