10 weeks ago i had the misfortune of meeting a large tractor on a country lane, this meeting resulted in my 90 being a write off.

i reported the incident to my insurance company who then kindly offered me a loan car and then promptly retracted it because they were unsure of who was at fault.

the 90 was then taken away to a garage to be inspected by an engineer which took a week, then it took a further 3 weeks to get a figure from them, a measly 2750 less 400 excess, this was a 1990 vehicle in very good condition with a 200tdi put in to replace the turbo diesel if anyone can find a 200tdi 90 for this price in good condition let me know.

then when i said that this would not be enough they asked me to post examples of vehicles similar to mine, so i found examples on landyzone classifieds and on autotrader and posted them and waited a week ........nothing.

so i called them and they said it had not been recieved so they gave me a fax number so i faxed more examples and waited a week.........nothing .

i rang again "we have not recieved them, what number did you fax them to? .....oh i'll give you the number to the machine downstairs" so i fax again and call straight after "i'll go and have a look, i'll call you back in 5 mins" 90 mins later i call them "oh did blah not call you there on his desk now", so i wait a week.......nothing.

i call again "we are waiting to recieve a fax from you" i say no i got confirmation that it was recieved,so i fax again and a few days later i get a call saying they won't budge on there offer unless i can prove that it has been regularly serviced .

i service the vehicle myself so i have no dealer stamps, luckily the previous owner did so i have a pile of reciepts to send off,

has anyone else had this kind of trouble with insurance or am i just a poor sole that gets put at the bottom of the pile

and what kind of price would you put on a 1990 land rover 90 200tdi sw in good condition?

Thats a right pain... I like the way they "didnt recieve" your fax's all those times - BS.

We will all post our landys on ebay, at £6500 and say they are 1990, 200tdi's that might work. Get yella to make out a load of reciepts from his new garage for ya.

Blimey - which insurance company is that? They sound a right shower - even Adrian Flux weren't that bad when I claimed off of them some years back.

i insured through Lancaster who have "specialist land rover insurance"
and when i call their claims line i get an automated list of about 20+ insurance companys to be put through to.

so i spotted the actual insurers phone number on the back page of my policy (jubilee motor policies at lloyds) and call that, they took details and then i was passed onto "the claims service" who as far as i can see are a completely seperate company.

So Where are these specialists?

i was also told that their researcher could only find one example of a similar 90 . is that Research?

how can they base the value of my 90 on one car, which was probably the same age and nothing else.

i bought the car for £5000 just over a year ago so i was expecting an offer of around 3500 as my research found this to be rock bottom price for a 90 TDI

send all your information via recorded delivery or registered post.
and dont accept their valuation. see them in court if necessary.

I claimed for a stolen car from Bell Direct about 3 years ago - their first offer was derisory (£1,000 less £150 excess) after 3 weeks of arguing I got £3,250 + £100 for the contents that were stolen with it. I was going to advertise the car for £3,500 and probably accept £3,250 - so it was really only my excess I lost out on.

If writing to them doesn't get you significantly closer to the valuation figure you're after - phone them up, speak directly to the person dealing with your claim and don't let them put the phone down until you're satisfied. Worked for me ;-)

Hope that helps,

I have now been contacted with a final figure, Horah!

I posted the full service history by recorded mail before Christmas, and phoned a few days later to check it was received it had been but it had to go to this office then that office then the other then..........blah!

i got the minimum i was going to hold out for, £3500, so i'm pretty happy apart from 3 months without a car.

i'm now on the hunt for a disco, a cheap 200tdi for modding and getting muddy.

Thanks for putting up with my moans

Mat
