Hi all,

I have had a good read of the threads here regarding insulation and ply lining. From that I feel the best way forward would be to insulate the rear arches, windows and roof. I still don't seem to have a consensus on what to do to firm up the base of the rear.

Would it be worth just using marine ply - some mentioned pin mat as a good shout. I don't want to spend time / money on stuff that will cause rot. Any good choices outside of dynamat? I have seen a lot of conflicting reports from other options - flop in the heat etc? Just seems quite expensive!

The car has 2 main uses - camping / adventures and out shooting.

Many thanks.

Don't do either. Bare metal can be hosed down, insulation and plywood are hard to clean and trap water.

To insulate the roof, put a few strips of something like silent coat on the Center of the big panels, then coat with foil insulation and spray glue. The sides could be done in the same manner if you choose to, but I wouldn’t do anything like that to the arches or floor.

If the arches or floor get dirty, you will need to clean them properly, and the insulation won’t help. I would get some heavy conveyor belt rubber and make some covers. This will help sound deaden the rear, and should help with insulation, but if you don’t glue it down, will enable you to remove it for cleaning.

I’m thinking of using some rubber crumb matt thats usually used under carpet to deaden sound. There’s several versions around, mid range has a cork and rubber mix, heavy duty version is just rubber, it’s heavy so won’t be using it everywhere. My camper storage is going to be standard 9mm ply at low level, with a lighter weight panel for higher units, like the idea of keeping the centre of gravity as low as is reasonable.
