Firstly, Range Rover is very tenuously 'English' or British these days, secondly, by the time that change was made, had it been able, it would be simpler and cheaper to buy a newer model and thirdly, En u noemde ons pretentieus. Lijkt u streven naar overeenstemming met uw eigen beschrijving van de Range Rover stuurprogramma ' s, bijna net zo veel als je de ambitie om te rijden een Range Rover :cool:

Excuse mistakes I don't speak or write Dutch.

The swede would appear to be a bit of a troll. Been here 20 days and seems to take delight in slagging people off.
Not a great way to get help and advice!

Don't know about that. Looks pretty good to me.

Dude, you need to see the humor a bit in things. If SaintV8 says the two systems work with a different language, you don't expect someone to come and give his reply in a different language?

As for "ambition" to drive a Range. Let me reassure you that a second hand RR is not something I "aspire" to drive. It's just a potential workhorse that ticks all the boxes from a point of view of power and comfort. Otherwise, it's just a car.

BTW: Land Rover isn't British anymore since a long time ;)

My friend, where I come from and the car fora I've been active before, people are welcomed at first.

If the reply to my first question is "google it" followed by a whole rant... surprised that person gets a similarly polite reply my end?
Or if a person's first reaction to a post is the fact I'm bull****ting... You weren't pleased to suddenly get some push back?

You better learn to live with it. I don't do uptight people or people who take themselves more serious than they should.

That is the real bummer. If it had been a matter of just replacing, or potentially swapping wiring loom, that works. But if both items work using a different language... :(

Hence my swearing at the LR engineers for making things so complicated ;)

It's what is known as progressive engineering. Making sure you can't make a new one from an old one. The ability to home repair vehicles is also being progressively engineered out of the equation. Everything will be dealer only in due time.

That is indeed what also Merc, BMW, etc try to do. And then you go to the stealer and the only staff they still have in their workshop are clueless youngsters who wouldn't know the front of the back of a spanner

Fortunately there are still few independent mechanics who know their stuff.

Never was a truer word spoken, quite a lot of main agent (Technicians) are computer drivers these days and don't know their arse from their elbow. Sadly will never ever become true mechanics who are a dying breed. As you say many independents know their stuff. Possibly staffed by people who are naturals with hands on learning. And no high formal qualification. Far better than any NVQ (Not very qualified) technician.

Yep wasn't my first reply to said post. Let's just agree to disagree on that.
This forum is very friendly but it's wise to get involved first before you start getting shirty or nobody will want to help you.
Would you walk up to a guy in the street who you don't know and com up with stuff like this? I doubt it. And if you did, it would be a toss up whether your towing antics or a smack on the nose will be the first to be painful!

Issue seems to lay in "pay". I was talking to the CEO of BMW Belgium-Luxemburg few weeks ago and pointed him to the fact that I wasn't using the main dealers anymore for my 750 as their staff was utterly useless (actually used those words).
He actually understood and told me they have a real problem hiring, and especially, retaining good mechanics.
Once they know what they are doing, they can earn more money setting themselves up as independents.
Told him he maybe should have a look at the reward structure.

For us, fact remains, we're often obliged to fall back on specialists. Not because of costs, but because they get things sorted.

I have never put a car in a garage for repairs in my life. But getting too old to do stuff now, so it maybe i will have to in the future.

Depends in my case. For small repairs, I do them myself. But I did blow up the engine of my AMG and had the gearbox of the BMW go... so...
