Hi all
I have a 2001 discovery 2, the instrment panel does not work. I have no gauges, no odometer, no fuel or temp gauge and no lights. Only lamp that works is SRS. Not sure where to look for the problem as it failed it' mot on the interior indicator warnings not working, the external indicators work though. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

It's quite difficult to explain but when I turn the key on it all works for a split second and then goes out. The illumination of the clocks works when I turn the head lamps on. Also if I turn the hazard lights on with the ignition off then the green indicator markers work but as soon as I turn the ignition on they stop but external indicators work.

Problem may lie with the ignition switch then.

Check fuses 10 & 14 under the bonnet. Also fuses 25, 27, 35 under dash panel. The earth for the dash, I believe is under the carpet.

Hi all
After the replies I have had I have checked the fuses and also removed the interior fuse box and checked that for moisture entry. All of the above are fine. The cluster lights up for a split second when I first turn the ignition on and then goes out. If I leave the ignition on for a few minutes it starts to work but then goes off as soon as I start the engine. Anyone got any ideas? I have a new ignition switch coming hopefully tomorrow to also try that. Thanks for reading

It's shown aproximately where it is(C0551), the earths for the instrument pack are coming from there pins 1-2 and going up through C0047/0223 pins 11 - 13, verify that earth path untill the instrument pack's right side plug (black wires all the way)

You must measure the resistance against body on the two earth pins at the top of the instrument pack and if it's 0 hook a voltmeter from behind with needles in C0230 across pins 18 - 19 and watch the voltage while you turn the ignition on... if it drops when the symptom occurs do the same across pin 19 and body to see if the feed is bad or the earth according to the results we'll speak then.... if the voltage will be strady 12+ V and the lamps still go out the problem is within the instrument pack

Thanks for your response, I will check it all out again today and let you know how I get on.

Hi sierrafery
It has been in the garage for some other work today and he has told me it could be the body control module. Is this a possibility? He has told me that he has checked the earth. I am a little bit dubious so will be checking them again myself when I get it home

Do what i recommended cos that measurement of voltage will rule out things and show exactly where's the trouble.... i'm inclined to rather blame the feed path now... the BCU would give different symptoms IMO

Hi there
I have done what you said and the earth seem good. Whenever I put a volt meter across pin 18 and 19 or from 19 to ground I blow fuse 27 which is 10amp

You must do something wrong there cos a voltmeter is not supposed to blow any fuse whatsoever...are you sure your multimeter was set to 20V DC and you didnt let it on resistance ? if yes the problem might be in the socket and when you push the probe into 19 it shorts to 18 or your tool is fubar

Hi mate
I was being a prat
I have put my probe in now and I have a love supply which stays when they go out so I think it must be the clocks
