Hi all 2.5 dse 1996. We have got the injector light flashing up on the dash only briefly for a second or two the going off. It only seems to happen when coming off the motor way and decelerating but only does it now and again. Is it something to be worried about or just a p38 thing. Cheers in advance.

The fault will be "Fuel quantity control" it's a sign that the track on the feedback pot is worn. Eventually it will start to stall when coming to halt, when drive is engaged on an auto or when steering inputs are made at idle speed. Only cure is refurbished pump.

Cheers thought it was something to do with fip. Have got a spare but it's a pain in the are to change from reading other threads. Swapped engines about 2 months since for one from an omega with only 68k on the clock and pump was already on the engine got lucky and had same pump as old engine. Would the tracks be that worn on a 68k engine. Old one had done 204k and wasn't flashing just felt a bit tired

Changing the FIP is not that bad. Bit fiddly getting the lift right. Be REALLY careful screwing bolts back in as it is ally and soft as butter. Even using a torque wrench a bit of dirt in the threads and it strips and you're in a world of pain.

What special tools would I need to change the fip

There's a kit with the timing tools. On my phone so cannot see your location. You need the flywheel locking pin and then there is a tool to screw in to hold the pump sprocket. The injector pipes have a special socket and then you need a dial guage and adapter to set the pump. If you check my threads for something like diesel stalling in hot weather you'll see eBay links.

OK so got flywheel pin and dial guage have managed to undo injector pipes with a spanner when I changed the engine so just need to get dial guage adapter and have a damn good read of rave
