given a clean and plentiful air free fuel supply to it the VE pump is super reliable.
Bench testing will include; quantity of fuel delivered, internal pressure generated by transfer pump, amount of timing advance, amount of return fuel.

have an email conversation with him .he will answer your questions ands give you his profesional opinion. he is aware of the Landyzone forum, he had 3 or 4 members pumps at his last week
.was it running ok pre engine rebuild..?
i would send him FIP and injectors.
Just sent my 300tdi one this week off my 110.
90 one is due back tomorrow. will pop some pics up when it's back

I know very little about injection pumps so im just curious to know.

think i had some diagram with it dis assembled with all parts see i fi can find it, probably on a post on here i think, maybe even on one of my threads

Weird things can go wrong with them, like anyhting else thet gets old.
I had one where it would not inject any fuel on one cylinder until the engine was hot.
History has a lot to do with it, crap fuel/dirty fuel/veg oil/fuel bug oil etc.
Our boat has VE pumps, last owner got fuel bug which shut one engine down out to sea near Felixstowe (he had just bought the boat!) the bug was so thick it broke a bracket in the pump itself, new inj pump and 4 injectors needed, pump alone was over 1.5k.

Yes. If in any doubt about the history of the system, I would be looking to clean out everything, starting with the tank, and including the fuel lines and filters.
Otherwise, you can end up spending a lot of money on a new pump, and water/ sludge/sticky residues/ etc. getting sucked straight back into the pump, and back to square one.
The most common source of contaminants is the fuel tank, and usually, they have got there from bad management by a previous owner.

I had one start to fail years ago. The first sign was the fuel stop solenoid not switching off. It had tiny ally filings in it. Over a year or so the filings got worse. Then it started leaking fuel from a triangular shaped bolt. At this point I got a second hand refurbished pump
