Hello,

Before I ask my question I would like to appologize for any mistakes I will make considering the English language, but I am from Holland so not a native speaker, but I will do my very best I promise.

We live in Sweden and have a small guesthouse.
For 'activity' -use I would like to purchase a Landrover Defender with 9 seats so I can take my customers anywhere they want to go.
Now I have an offer to puy a diesel Defender 'Country' from 1998 with approx 250.000 km on the clock/engine
The seller tells me some facts and I would like to varify these facts:

250.000 km sound as a lot of km to me but he says milage is not important and 250.000 is not as much as it sounds

He says that the engine of a Defender from before 1999 is much less complicated and that is why it is not so sensitive for failures (less electronics and special features he says) and that if I would ask any Landrover club member who owns a Defender, he or she would agree with him.

I think the seller is an hounest guy but before I spend my hard-earned money I would like to hear some tips and advise from you specialists outthere

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and efforts

Kind regards,

Ok so your engine has done 155000 miles (250000km) this is not a problem, my 90 has done 148000 odd and still going strong.

A Diesel engine will go on for ages, when you get it, make sure it continues to get its services, and gets regular oil changes.

The earlier the engine (in my opinion) the better, because there are less or no electrics, so that is a good advantage.

Check under it, look at the chassis, make sure there are not any gaping holes, expect a bit of rust.

Land Rovers will go on and on, a 1998 will be good.
