Hello everyone,

I have been trying to find and fox the fault in my L-plate discover 1 200tdi for a few days now, and i just can't seem to do it. I have tested for faults in bulbs and circuitry in the dash, and put new bulbs in any that tested abnormal. But still the indicator tell does not work. It indicates fine, all working.
Anyone know what i should do next?
I suspect there is a problem with some wiring somewhere as when i put the hazards on the tow light tell comes on briefly.
I don't know where to go next, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks all. T

The tow "tell-tale" should only work when you have a trailer hanging on the back.
This from the Disco 1 Owner's Handbook:-

The direction indicator relay has three circuits in it, one is for the external lamps, the other two are for the trailer and the green dash indicating lamp... this is the circuit that has failed so just replace the relay. Simples.

Awesome, relays are not a thing i have dealt with before! I shall find and replace it! Thank you!

Thank you! I have got it. I notice i great price difference in the land rover original parts and some other brands. im talking 30 for the LR and 5 for the others. Any experience with the cheaper ones? do they work just as well?

No experience with the cheaper ones, still using the factory fitted one. :)
YES, they to work as well, but not always if u don't get the correct on. If your existing relay isn't genuine LR then try and source like for like to the one u have, which will include the 4 rear indicators (u have that don't u) + the two at the front and the side repeaters + the trailer lamps/indication. if there's any difficulty go to a local motor parts shop and ask to try the item what they give you, as the relays are more involved so quite expensive over the bog standard saloon car variety and then find it "don't work". :(

I had a similar problem a few years back, it turned out it was the relay, VIN no said it was a three pin jobby, the one fitted was an obscure 4 pin and not like the 5 pin found in the 300Tdi, hard to find it was too, ended up getting new old stock from John Richards surplus and had it shipped from the UK to me in Holland, plugged it in and all back to normal.

I will add that my Discovery had all of the relays BBQd with the fire under the dash and I was actually surprised that it had lasted so long after getting it back on the road lol
