Going round a tight little roundabout the other day in heavy traffic I had to hold the indicator switch on to stop it self cancelling. This appears to have a lead to a strange fault, viz: all the indicators keep flashing. If the vehicle is stopped and engine off and keys out, keeps flashing.Taking the indicator relay out has no effect.Chased the clicking back to the 6"x4" green box under the nearside dash that controls, among other things the central locking. It has two multiplugs into it,if I detach either, the flashing stops but the vehicle wont start.I re plug both the vehicle starts buts lights flash.Unplug the larger,(I think) grey one and the flashing stops and the vehicle drives OK.But when stopped it cannot be locked even manually by the key.

OK.So I substituted a known to work green box from another disco with a remote with a new battery (just in case) - vehicle central locking works but engine will not start.Right, dont understand that, but since there is no visible burning inside the original box I think that the fault must be inside the indicator multi function switch.

So,indicator multi function switch, got a spare disco sitting around that I could scab one off,but....since the first vehicle has airbags I am a little wary of taking the steering whell apart to access the multi switch fixings.

To sum up....does anyone know what the hell is going on here? And how do I go about taking the indicator multi switch off?

Thanks for your time.

PS.it is bucketing down outside, whenever I get an electrical fault it rains. You may want to contact me when planning your holsto see if I have any electrical work to do.

The green box has an inertia device switch thing so when you crash the car it will unlock doors and set the hazards going. you need to take keys out for 15 seconds or something then turn ignition on to stop it. If you plug the box in turn ign on and tap the box you will see that it does what i describe. I doubt it had anything to do with you holding the indicator stalk, it was just a coincidence.. my guess is the box was not secure enough and it just rattled, causing it to set off.

The box wasnt secured at all,it was just hanging loose,so thats probably it,going fast round a sharp corner.Nice one, thanks mate!

However,as to the resetting,Ive had the key in and out a few times and no progress.Anyone got the step by step for idiots,ie,me?

im sure if you just turn it to off position for 15 seconds then turn it back on it should reset it. I might be wrong about taking key out, you might have to leave it in but at off position. Make sure the box is atatched though!

So,start the car...lights flashing....stop car,key to off position for 15.....restart.....all good?

soory to be such an arse but I am sick of flattening the battery and crawling about in the wet out there,so I want my thick head so actually absorb this!
