Indicator indicator

Hello

I am booked for my B+E test and there little rule book states "

The towing vehicle must be fitted with an audible or visual repeater showing the correct operation of the trailer indicators."

as you know on a landy there is a light on the dash which should do this mine doesn't work i have replaced the bulb in the dash with one i know works and still nothing is there any way of checking this is wired up / buzzer alternative.

all the trailer lights work just not the little dash light

Hi, I had this on my disco. Turned out to be the plug on the trailer, got a new one from local factors, 15 min job, cleaned or snipped the ends of any wires that looked knackerd and it sorted it.

It sounds like a bad earth on the trailer wiring. If the current draw is not high enough it won't iluminate the light as it doesn't recognise that a trailer is plugged in.

the other way to check if the actual light is operating is to flick the indicator on when the trailer isnt connected and the trailer light on the dash will flick on very briefly,least youll know if the light is working

landyman i know what you mean my old mans disco flashes once when no trailer is connected mine doesnt !!

i would have to guess that it dont work then.
it will have to be the annoying buzzer for you then

i have done a bit of research and am i right in saying the indicator flasher / relay is situated down by the fuse box i have a lucas 53988076a which is a 3 pin relay

i believe am i right in saying i need to upgrade this to a 4 pin something like this

is it as simple as it sound to simply swap them over the cable appears to there behind the dash section but not traced it all the way back to fuse box as of the lovely rain can i asume it goes to the relay and is just not pluged in ?

Just try cleaning up / replacing the plug before you go digging about behind the dash, 1.99 and 15 minutes...worth a try?

Paul allready tried cleaning the crud off i have no idea how mud get behind the dash but there ya go hasnt made any differnce. i have sourced a 4 was relay from local landrover dingles yard £3 so will see how it goes everything else looks to be in good order.
