Hi Gary, radio reception near me is rubbish....what i did last week was get a piece of electrical copper cable (earth copper core from mains cable i had spare) ...form a small circle at one end & flatten with a hammer....then bend it so it forms a 'washer'...take off the existing Freelander arial....carefully/neatly shape the copper wire up to the tip of the aerial (i used small spots of superglue & washing line pegs to hold it in place)...once the glue is dry give it a couple of coats of matt black spray paint & replace on car, the radio reception improved dramatically, no more signal 'drop outs' etc ;)

A cheap way of getting better reception using things i just had lying around, if you take your time & do it neatly you cant see any difference in the look of the aerial.....

Mind you next time there is lightning i will probably act as a conductor & end up frazzled but at least the radio worked :D:D

My radio reception went from not good to none at all after I replaced the factory radio with my Sony. Reception was so bad I took the Sony out again assuming the aerial plug had come out. After proving the connection I decided to get an in line booster. I got one from China for about £4 including delivery. It works as I can get stations again! :)

you can really improve you radio reception if you can get hold of a pre amp that uses the back windscreen from a scrap car, I used to have a Granada and that had one in I could hear radio station from all over .

Eh yes.....why

Just sounds such a simple thing to do that works.

I might try this.

Just to clarify, the length of wire is glued to run down the shaft of the existing aerial to the bottom. It doesn't connect to anything?

I am aware of the small loop around the tip of the aerial. :)

al that a radio Ariel is ,Is a piece of cable whether it be metal or copper you have to make sure it is not touching the bodywork or you will earth it .the longer it is the better

Hi, you're correct....its just glued down the existing aerial & the 'washer' part is round the thread part so that when the aerial is screwed down it makes a good connection. What you are basically doing is making the aerial a better connector....& it has made a big difference ;)
