I am a 65yr old lady just got a 1998 Range rover last week-end. On the way back from collecting it the windsreen wipers packed up. I was stranded on the brecon Becons all night in terrible weather. I had to pay a lorry to collect me. Today while it was dry I was going to take it for a run, only to find it would not turn over,. I dont have a code and the keys are old/worn. Is there anyway the immobilizer can be removed.? I dont have a clue about cars and I dont have much money.

Sounds like you need a battery no a code.

Welcome.
If you bought from a dealer, you need to phone them tomorrow, and get them to fix it. Although they might ask if you let the battery drain during the 'terrible weather'.
If you bought it privately, you need to start with joining the AA. Then checking your battery. Once you've done both of those come back and let us know where things stand.

The alarm and immobilizer can be turned of but needs special diagnostic to do so, depending on what message you have up on the dash will dictate what is needed,
if your battery has gone down it may just need a charge and the key re syncing, if you have keycode lock out you will need to enter the eka code (emergency key access) which may well be in the front of the handbook if not you can get it from a main agent for free if you take your docs in.
unfortunately it looks like there is no one near you on here that has the diag.

Sorry to hear of your problems Sue, but it has to be said that for someone that hasn't a clue about cars & lacks money you have not made the best choice when it comes to your transport. These were both expensive & complex cars when new & 22 years of wear & tear will have taken it's toll.
The good news is that there are many helpful & knowledgeable people on this forum that will do their best to help you out.

This lady is 65 years old I dought I’ve she will be doing much of her on mechanics not being rude just some of the jobs I’ve done over the last few months nearly killed me hopefully there’s someone near your area that’s willing to give a bit of help

Did you decide on your forum name after the purchase of the rangerover or did you purchase the rangerover because of your forum name? If you don't know much about cars and you don't have much money, get rid of it quick and buy something reliable made in Germany or Japan, they're not good at winning wars but they are good at making cars.

Ummmmmm some people, of all ages, are able to do their own work. I'm sure we have members older than 65 who work on their vehicles. The things suggested so far, even I could do, and I am officially a flid. Let's give her a chance before writing her off ;)
If anything, the tone of her post is what would make me say she won't be doing much of the work. ;)
Then again we have had others, here, in their 20s who haven't been able to do much of anything tenor (1).gif

Welcome Sue.
Sorry to hear of your experiences so far with your Rangie. It can't have been any fun at all. :(
If you are "cash constrained" you may struggle to keep a Rangie going I fear.
Yes, some aspects of electronic security and immobilisation CAN be turned off and thing made a little simpler.
As already said it needs someone with the correct diagnostic kit for your Range Rover variant to do this.
Look around on the web for an INDEPENDENT LR specialist (I would steer clear of a main dealer stealer).
To get more detailed advice/help you need to tell us the specific model.
2.5DSE/4.0/4.6.
Best wishes.

Strange that the OP has 17 replies to date, but nothing more has been heard from her … not even the model info. requested by DC :(
